Overview

Battle Types, also unofficially known as Jobs or Classes, are one of the most important gameplay mechanics in PSU. They determine a character's Stats, their level caps for Photon Arts, which weapons they can use, how much PP certain weapons regenerate per interval, and proficiency with Traps. There are twelve Types in total, three Basic Types that are available immediately, and nine Expert Types that can only be unlocked by attaining the required Type Levels in the Basic Types. Three more "Master Types" have been announced for future release, but the specifics on them are unknown at this time. For people interested in playing the hybrid Types, it might be good to keep in mind the maximum amount of Photon Arts that can be learned at a time is 36.

Here is a quick overview of the different Types:

Type levels and changing Types

Separately from one's Character Level, Types can be leveled up for stat increases. To do so, you will need to gain Type Experience Points, which are awarded after completing Missions (check the article for in-depth info regarding amounts). The maximum Type level is currently capped at 15.

The following is a chart of mission points ('Type Experience') needed to level up the types:

You can change your current Type to any of the Types available at the Type Select Counter at Clyez City 5F on the Colony. By doing so, you will not get any of the benefits of your old Type in your new one. You will not lose your old Type level either though. Changing Types will cost a certain amount of Meseta, dependent on one's Character Level. The formula for obtaining the cost of a Type change for any given Character Level is 150 + (50 * CL), where CL is the character's Character Level -- this is also represented in the following table.

Additional Bonuses

Traps

Main article: Traps

Rangers, Fighgunners, Guntechers, Fortegunners, Acrofighters, Acrotechers, Fighmasters and Gunmasters are able to use certain Traps; Protransers can use all of them at increased damage since it is their specialty; inflicting damage 50% greater than that of normal trap users.

  • A trap's SE should affect any monster that can be affected by that SE, despite normal restrictions of SE level. (Normal Traps work on Large monsters)
  • SE levels remain constant despite level or Type.
  • Trap damage itself, as well as SE's damage/effects are nonelemental; meaning that they are not affected by a monster's element.
  • Traps charge a SUV-bar. Assumedly they charge a nanoblast as well.

PP Regeneration

Every five seconds, Weapons regenerate a certain amount of PP. Offline this is always one, but online the amount is variable, and Types get regeneration bonuses for their 'native' weapon types as well (more info about the regeneration rates here):

  • +25% bonus to PP Regeneration on Melee Weapons: Hunters, Fighgunners, Wartechers and Fortefighters.
  • +25% bonus to PP Regeneration on Ranged Weapons: Rangers, Fighgunners, Guntechers and Fortegunners.
  • +25% bonus to PP Regeneration on Casting Weapons: Forces, Guntechers, Wartechers and Fortetechers.

PP Consumption

Fortefighters, Fortegunners and Fortetechers consume only 80% of the original PP when using Skills, Bullets and TECHNICs, respectively.

Increased attack speed

Acrofighters, Acrotechers, Fighmasters, and Gunmasters have a faster attack speed than other types.

Increased casting speed

Acrotechers and Masterforces have a faster casting speed than other types.

Penalties

PP Consumption

Fighmasters, Gunmasters and Masterforces get a penalty in PP consumption.

  • Fighmasters PP consumption is increased by 30%.
  • Gunmasters and Masterforces PP consumption is increased by 20%.

Favored Types

Online, some of the possible combinations of Races and Types gains additional statistical bonuses, the figures of which depend on the Types themselves, and are the same for all stats. While calculating bonuses, these are separate to and applied cumulatively with the Type figures (as seen in the sections below) against the 'base stats' for certain Races/genders. These bonuses exist for the following combinations:
