Partner Machineries (パートナーマシナリー), or PMs (パシリ) for short, are floating pet robots, like the Mags from PSO, and can be found in one's My Room. In Story Mode Ethan's PM is called 'Pete', but in Extra Mode and Network Mode players are able to choose and change their name themselves.

PMs have several functions:

  • Item storage
  • Item Synthesis
  • Engaging in combat as a sidekick (fourth-stage only)
  • Providing plot information and hints (Story Mode)

They also have several statistics:

  • Striking - raises the profiency in synthesizing Melee Weapons
  • Ranged - raises the profiency in synthesizing Ranged Weapons
  • Technic - raises the profiency in synthesizing Casting Weapons
  • Armor - raises the profiency in synthesizing Armors
  • Production Level (max. 100) - the sum of the above four; determines when evolution takes place
  • Combat Level (max. 100) - dictates a PM's stats in combat and increases overall synthesis proficiency; increased by having the PM participate in combat a lot

To increase the first four statistics, PMs can be fed 99 before becoming "full". Once they have been fed 99 items, you must wait 12 hours before feeding them again. They will refuse to eat any Synthesis Boards, Grinders or Presents. One easy way of raising one's PM is to creating a new character for its initial items, put these in the account bank, and repeat. For this, Newmans are best for Technic; Casts for Armor or Ranged; Humans or Beasts for Striking.

Regarding synthesis, the distinct PM evolutions each specialize either in Striking, Ranged or Technic; there seem to be none specializing in Armor. The battle-usable evolutions all have associated combat behaviour and equipment. Not much is known about their stats in combat currently, other than that this is dependent on their evolution and Combat Level.

Only the leader of a party may summon his or her battle-usable PM to combat. The PM is capable of taking damage and dying like any ordinary player as well as reducing final trial rewards through death. Experience gained by players for defeated enemies is affected in the same way by the PM's attacks as would be by a player's. The PM has no means of healing itself outside of Force spells, area affect items and returning to town.

An item called PM Device ZERO is used to reset your PM's stats to zeros. Although you will lose the level and form of your PM by using the item, you will not lose your money or items stored in that bank.
