  • Given that I've never had any problems with the Japanese standard whatsoever (and that I can tell the difference between f and F), I don't think it's necessary to use the 'Sou standard.' Mewn 10:05, 22 June 2007 (BST)

I have it here at User:Shinzakura/Sandbox. Please let me know if this works and I can tweak or prepare a finalized version as necessary. Thanks.--Shinzakura 21:18, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

  • It looks nice (I like the planets/GC idea), but it looks a bit too... 80s, I suppose. I dunno, it's probably just me, but it looks really retro >_<

Don't take that as an insult, it's good work and a massive improvement over the current logo, I just wonder if you could experiment with removing the hexagon and making the planets/GC bigger and more clear. Mewn 21:47, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

No insult taken; you should hear some of my other clients' comments. ^_^;;; Actually, I was trying to keep within the general feel of the game itself (hexagons, icons vice photorealism, etc.) Maybe removing the photon emblem in the center would help?--Shinzakura 21:58, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Another problem I noticed is the logo size itself. the current one is 135x135px. The test logo is 150x150px. Is there a software or sizing limitation that I need to know about (it might make it harder to make the planets larger, or do anything else with the font as necessary.--Shinzakura 22:09, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Will definitely make for an improvement. >_>
I'm trying to come up with concrete ideas to tweak it a bit, but maybe I'm not really sure what I'd like either. In any case, in addition to Mewn's remarks, I was wondering about the icons -- why these? I'm thinking it might be good if it was easier to recognize as being PSU-related (yeah, I know the clover is even less so XP). Anyway, looking forward to see what you'd decide on eventually. I definitely wouldn't be able to make something decent. >_< - Tycho 22:21, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
N.B.: Not sure if it'd resize automatically; could try it out, but I'm guessing it wouldn't, in which case it'd be more convenient to keep with the current width.
    • No problem, I prefer avoiding having the system auto-resample, as it might not look its best that way. As for the icons:
The top is the colony, meant to be seen from a straight ahead approach.

The left is Moatoob, with its single ring
The bottom is Neudaiz, as it has no rings
The right is Parum, with its multiple artificial rings
The color schemes of the three planetary icons match the rough RGB of the three actual planets

The photon emblem was a last minute addition that I can easily dispense with. It was also meant to imply the addition of the HIVE and future expansions, as well as the 7 colors of the photon system.
Let me remove the emblem and see if that helps.--Shinzakura 22:31, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Version 2

Just uploaded another version to the sandbox. See if this works a bit better.--Shinzakura 22:47, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

  • It's better, looking good. I assume the planets will look a bit better though in the final version? As they are they look a bit cartoony. Mewn 01:13, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
    • Yeah, right now it's just layout. As we get closer to the final version it'll look a little more photorealistic, but not too much, as I'm limited to the 72dpi of the screen.--Shinzakura 03:16, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
      • While this shouldn't be a primary (or any) concern, it'd be nice if the search plugin logo matched or kept in-theme with the main logo. I might be able to take care of that again though (the best I can do with the current version seems to be SearchGC.png or SearchP.png ). - Miraglyth 15:10, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
  • It is definitely an improvement over what we have currently, but I honestly do not like it very much. Something about it just looks too simple, maybe it's the amount of black space between each planet. I don't know, it seems rather bland to me, though perhaps that is because it is not a final version, as you have indicated. Personally, I think a simple screenshot from the game with text overlain would work better (something like what I just uploaded in my sandbox), but you'll probably say we can't use it for copyright/fair-use/whatever reasons. --Qwerty 00:13, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
