Episode 1 Chapter 07 Mission (script)

Shikon Islands: Block A-1

(Scene: Ethan, Hyuga, Maya, Mirei, Bruce) (As the party enters the Shikon Islands, Maya stops to address them)

• Maya: From here we'll trek to the old Hakura Temple grounds.
• Ethan: How come? If we go by flyer, we can fly right up to it, can't we?
• Maya: There are two reasons: First, since we're trying to rescue Karen from her father, we don't want to show up in a noisy flyer. It'll give us away, then Karen might be moved to another location. If that happens, we're finished.
• Mirei: Yes, if Father is alerted, then it may be difficult to ascertain my sister's location.
• Maya: The second reason is the same reason we had to walk in the Mizuraki C.D. before.
• Ethan: Gohgs?
• Maya: Correct! Unfortunately, this area is crawling with Gohgs. If we travel by flyer, there's no question that we'll be taken down.
• Hyuga: How irritating. We're so close to the temple! Any delay will just put Karen in more danger!
• Mirei: Either way, it's a risk. But I agree with Maya.
• Hyuga: But...
• Ethan: If the Maiden herself says it's better this way, then I, for one, trust her. It's our duty and our mission to protect her, so let's just do it, okay?
• Mirei: Thank you for your support, Mr. Waber.
• Ethan: No sweat!
• Hyuga: Pfft!
• Maya: Wait a minute, everyone calm down. It's not like I don't know what I'm doing. We came fully prepared...
• Ethan: ?

(The party exits to the north a bit and approaches Bruce's merchant shuttle)

• Bruce: Hey, what took you so long?
• Ethan: You!
• Maya: It's been a long time, Bruce.
• Ethan: He knows Maya, too!
• Bruce: What? You guys are here, too? We hafta stop meeting like this. Hm... You seem different today, little lady...
• Mirei: W-Well...
• Maya: Bruce, concentrate! Let's get down to business. Do you have the goods ready to go?
• Bruce: Hey now, you know I always come through, Maya. Leave it to me!

(The camera changes angles to show a Jet-Ski like object floating in the water)

• Ethan: W-What's that?
• Maya: We'll be traveling part of the way on these floaders. We should be able to cut down a lot of travel time with these.
• Bruce: If you need a lesson on how to ride 'em, let me know.

(End Scene)

• Bruce: What do you wanna know?

(Cutscene) (Ethan and party ride the floaders through the waterways between the Shikon Islands) (End Cutscene)

(Scene: Ethan, Hyuga, Maya, Mirei) (The party exit their floaders near a land outcropping and proceed towards the temple)

• Maya: From here on out we should be careful not to make a commotion. Let's travel on foot.
• Mirei: You're right. There will be guards patrolling the temple.
• Hyuga: Let's proceed with caution. Maiden... Did you know about Karen?
• Mirei: I knew that I had a sister... But I had heard she passed away.
• Ethan: Maiden...
• Mirei: It was so wonderful to discover she was alive! For these past two weeks we've gotten along so well and have become very close. It's the first time I've had someone my own age to talk to. I've never felt so close to another person...
• Ethan: Oh...
• Mirei: She spoke very highly of you, Mr. Waber.
• Ethan: Really?
• Mirei: She said that, although you can be rash, you are very reliable.
• Ethan: R-Really?
• Mirei: I think so, too. From the first time we met, I sensed you had the strength to make change.
• Ethan: I...
• Hyuga: Maiden... D-Do you sense anything in me?
• Mirei: Uh, well... not... um... You know, I'm sorry. Everyone, please call me Mirei.
• Ethan: Oh all right, Mirei. And I'm fine with Ethan.
• Hyuga: And please call me Hyuga!
• Mirei: All right. Ethan, Hyuga...

(The Maiden becomes distressed)

• Mirei: Ugh...
• Ethan: Mirei!
• Mirei: Father... what are you doing to her...? Please, let's hurry. My sister needs our help.
• Ethan: Yes, let's go!

(End Scene)

(Fight your way from Block B-1 to C-1)

Shikon Islands: Block C-1

(Cutscene) (Ethan and party walk through a clearing in the heavy rain. Ethan hears a noise and looks up to see an Onmagoug approaching them. The Onmagoug fires a gigantic purple ball of lightning at the group, scattering them) (End Cutscene)

(Trial Start)

• Hyuga: We seem to run into this guy a lot.
• Maya: I could do without his company, thank you.
• Ethan: We've beat him before. Let's take him out again!

(Defeat Onmagoug) (Trial End)

(Cutscene) (As the fight ends, Mirei collapses in distress. Ethan rushes to her side)

• Ethan: Mirei! Mirei! Mirei!!
• Hyuga: What happened to her?
• Maya: She doesn't look too good...

(Mirei comes to and struggles to her feet)

• Mirei: No, I... I'll be alright... This isn't the first time it's happened.
• Ethan: Are you sure you're okay?
• Mirei: My sister and I, we're connected somehow.
• Ethan: Whaddya mean "connected"?
• Mirei: Well we're twins, so there's that relationship, but we're also connected by the Marks of Light we both have on our hands. My pain is merely a reflection of... What she's probably feeling right now.
• Ethan: Well, that's not good...
• Mirei: Quickly... There's not much time left.

(End Cutscene)

Shikon Islands: Block D-1

(If you try to exit to C-1)

• Ethan: Let's hurry to the old Hakura Temple!

(Fight your way from Block D-1 through D-3)

Shikon Islands: Block D-3

(Scene: Hyuga, Ethan, Mirei, Maya) (Near the end of the block the party finds a row of lamp posts leading to an entrance)

• Ethan: Is that the old Hakura Temple?
• Mirei: Yes, that's it. It has been renovated and is currently being used as a TECHNIC research facility.
• Maya: Let's hurry up and get Karen!

(End Scene)

Old Hakura Temple: Block A-1

(As the party begins exploring the block, they are attacked by COG battle machines)

• Mirei: So many battle machines... What could my father possibly be planning?

(Fight through Block A-1 and A-2)

Old Hakura Temple: Block A-3

(Cutscene) (Ethan and the party continue down a hall between blocks where they are stopped by two Armed Servants)

• Armed Servant:: Stay where you are! All those not authorized by the Light Master himself are forbidden here!
• Ethan: Damn! Wouldn't you know it!

(Ethan prepares to draw his sword, but Hyuga stops him)

• Hyuga: Leave these guys to me! Just go find Karen, okay?!
• Ethan: Good luck, Hyuga!

(Ethan and the rest of the group run off as Hyuga draws his sword to face the Armed Servants alone)

• Hyuga: Ha! I'll be finished with you fools in no time!

(End Cutscene)

Old Hakura Temple: Block B-1

(Exit to Light Master Dohgi's Study)

Old Hakura Temple: Dohgi's Study

(Scene: Ethan, Maya, Mirei) (The party enters an office type room with a large desk and computer panels)

• Ethan: Whose room is this?
• Mirei: This is my father's study.
• Maya: Light Master Dohgi's?
• Mirei: There's something I want to investigate in here.

(Scene fades out and then back in with Mirei investigating the computer panels behind the desk)

• Mirei: This is... Oh my... Then it's true!
• Ethan: What?
• Mirei: I... found proof.
• Maya: What is it?
• Mirei: It's a record of payments my father received from... rogues. Occasionally... my father would ask me to do specific divinations. This must be why.
• Ethan: You mean... he made you do divinations, then sold that information to the rogues!?
• Mirei: I can't believe he'd use me like that. In the end... All I've been is a money-making tool...
• Maya: That's not true! There are so many people who've been helped by you. You're a symbol of hope for the people of Gurhal!
• Mirei: Yes... I suppose that the feelings of those who have been helped is all that truly matters.
• Maya: You are doing a wonderful job, Mirei. Your father was wrong in using your gift for his own selfish benefit.
• Mirei: Thank you, Maya.
• Ethan: In any case, we'd better find Dohgi Mikuna quickly! He used his own daughter to get rich. There's no telling what else a guy like that'll do!
• Maya: Yes, we've got to stop him right away!

(The Maiden becomes distressed)

• Mirei: Ugh...
• Maya: Maiden!
• Mirei: We must e getting close to my father. Something is about to begin...
• Ethan ...

(End Scene)

Old Hakura Temple: Block B-1

(Scene: Ethan, Maya, Mirei) (As the party exits Light Master Dohgi's study, a pair of Armed Servants approach them)

• Armed Servant 1: Who's there? Trespassers!?
• Ethan: No, we're, um... doing some construction work, and we're a little lost.
• Armed Servant 2: Liar!

(Mirei uses her Nano Transformer to change back into her Maiden Clothing)

• Mirei: Wait. They're with me.
• Armed Servant 2: Maiden! Please forgive me!
• Armed Servant 1: No, she's an imposter! The Maiden wouldn't know anything about this place. Plus, they just came out of Light Master Dohgi's room.
• Armed Servant 2: Thieves!
• Mirei: Stop! We're...!
• Ethan: Mirei, stop... They aren't going to listen.
• Maya: We've got to fight them!

(End Scene) (Fight and Defeat the Armed Servants)

(Try to exit back to Block A-3)

• Ethan: There's no time to mess around!

(Fight through Old Hakura Temple: Blocks B-1 thru B-3)

Old Hakura Temple: Block C-1

(Cutscene) (Light Master Dohgi stands above Karen who lies unconscious on the floor in the center of a large Mark of Light. As he begins chanting, he is enveloped in swirling light. Slowly, Karen's body begins floating upwards. The party enters, interrupting the incantation)

• Mirei: Father!
• Dohgi: Mirei! What are you doing here?!
• Mirei: You should know that Karen and I are bound by our Marks! I can feel her presence, no matter where you take her!
• Dohgi: Mirei. I'm only doing this for you. You know that your body won't last much longer. But with her energy, that won't be a problem!
• Mirei: Oh I see, to you, my sister's already dead?
• Dohgi: Mirei. It was only by my doing that you became Maiden! Without her energy, your power would be cut in half! Infusing Karen with a Mark of Light, I could transfer her power, making your powers absolute.
• Mirei: Kill my sister? How could your mind be so perverted?
• Dohgi: I had no choice... You understand the heritage we must uphold! The Mikunas have always had powerful Maidens in their bloodline.
• Mirei: Had I known the price, I would rather have sacrificed myself.
• Dohgi: You just don't understand, do you... You are just like your mother. She pitied this child, and took her away before I... I heard she was killed by wild animals, so I never imagined she might still be alive.
• Mirei: Father, please stop this madness.
• Dohgi: It cannot be stopped now... Your powers as Maiden will soon be complete! Transferring Karen's life energy is all that's left.
• Mirei: No... Never! You will not sacrifice my sister!
• Dohgi: You are wrong... No, the Divine Maidens will remain Mikunas... as they always have! I am sure Karen would understand.

(Ethan, unable to control himself any longer bursts forth) Ethan: Right, that's enough old man! You gotta be crazy to kill your own daughter?! (Dohgi reaches out blasts Ethan with a Technic, knocking him to the ground)

• Mirei: Ethan!
• Dohgi: How dare you! I shall make sure you bother me no longer!

(Dohgi reaches out to blast Ethan again, but Mirei jumps between them, shielding Ethan)

• Dohgi: Mirei! You would stand against your father?!
• Mirei: Father, please! Just open your eyes!
• Dohgi: If you do not understand my love for you, then I will make you understand!!!

(Dohgi blasts Mirei with a powerful Technic)

• Mirei: Aaaaaaaahhhh!
• Ethan: Mirei!

(Mirei collapses to the ground)

• Dohgi: N-No... What have I done... Mirei, speak to me... No! No, I couldn't have...

(Dohgi Mikuna kneels beside his fallen daughter, weeping, as Hyuga enters the room with Light Master Rutsu and a contingent of Armed Servants)

• Hyuga: Stay right there! Ethan. I knew you couldn't do this alone, so...
• Ethan: Huh?!

(Rutsu approaches Dohgi)

• Dohgi: Light Master Rutsu!
• Rutsu: Lord Dohgi... You have been accused of horrible crimes I would never have believed... until now.
• Dohgi: This... This is a personal matter. It does not concern you.
• Rutsu: You've done harm to one Maiden and are now attempting to kill another. Your sins are grave indeed. I find you guilty.
• Dohgi: Y-You will not judge me!! Next to the Divine Maiden, you are nothing! No one shall interfere!

(Behind Light Master Dohgi, a gigantic Mecha is materialized and poised for attack. Ethan draws his sword)

• Ethan: Let me take care of this!
• Rutsu: Very well then. Go.
• Hyuga: I'm right beside you!
• Maya: And don't forget about me!
• Dohgi: Say your prayers!

(End Cutscene)

(Start Trial)

• Ethan: How could you do this to your daughter!? What kind of Light Master are you!? You monster!

(Defeat Adahna Degahna) (End Trial)

(Cutscene) (Ethan rushes to Karen's side)

• Ethan: Karen! Karen! Karen!

(Slowly Karen comes to as Ethan helps her to sit up)

• Karen: Ethan?

(On the other side of the room, the ruins of the Adahna Degahna sputter smoke and sparks. Dohgi Mikuna crawls from the pilot seat and falls to the temple floor. As he looks up, Lord Rutsu is standing above him)

• Rutsu: Your title is forfeit, Lord Dohgi...
• Dohgi: Ugh.

(The Armed Servants pick Dohgi Mikuna and begin escorting him out of the temple. They pass by Mirei's body lying motionless)

• Dohgi: Mirei... Mieri... Mirei!!!

(End Cutscene)

(Cutscene) (Lord Rutsu kneels before the body of the Maiden, futilely trying to cast recovery techniques while the other stand around watching)

• Rutsu: It's no use... Her time is near.

(Karen falls to her knees beside Mirei and clutches her hand)

• Karen: Mieri... Mirei... Mirei...
• Mieri: My sister...
• Karen: Mirei... You should never have come. This is all my fault...
• Mirei: Not at all sister. I owe my entire life to you. You gave me everything. And now... It's my turn to give back, so you can live fully.
• Karen: Mirei... I'm so sorry. I never... had a chance to be with you like I'd hoped...
• Mirei: My sister, please don't cry... We are but two halves of a whole, that can never be parted. The Light will bind our spirits, and together we'll shine, with a love that knows no time.
• Karen: Yes...
• Mirei: No matter where you are, no matter where you go... I will always be with you, by your side. Think of me and I'll be there.
• Karen: I know... We will always be one... no matter what.
• Mirei: I love you...

(Mirei Mikuna passes away)

• Karen: Mirei! Mirei! Mirei!!!! Aaaaah!!!!

(End Cutscene)

(Cutscene) (Ethan stands in a grove in the Mizuraki C.D. From the sky descends a Communion Limo. Karen exits and walks up to Ethan)

• Karen: Long time no see.
• Ethan: Yeah. How you feeling?
• Karen: Okay...
• Ethan: I was worried when I heard you quit the GUARDIANS... I didn't know what to think.
• Karen: Sorry, I mean to get in touch with you...
• Ethan: Don't worry about it. You're here right now. So then, what did you want to talk about?
• Karen: There was... something I needed to know...
• Ethan: Yeah? L-Like what?
• Karen: This!

(Karen pulls a dagger slashes several times at Ethan's face. Ethan ducks away quickly, avoiding the blows)

• Ethan: A-Are you insane?!
• Karen: I missed your final days of training, so I wanted to see how strong you've become!

(Ethan laughs and pulls his saber)

• Ethan: You asked for it!
• Karen: Let's go!
• Ethan: Yeah!

(Karen and Ethan rush into each other's attacks, deftly dodging and blocking each other in a very fast paced fight. Ethan manages to knock one of Karen's daggers out of her hand, but she continues fighting with the other. Ethan eventually manages to kick her other dagger away and feint a slash at the throat Karen was unprepared for. The fight ends)

• Karen: I give up!
• Ethan: Well?
• Karen: You've grown strong... There's nothing more that I can teach you.
• Ethan: Karen...
• Karen: After today... I will no longer be myself.
• Ethan: Wha... What do you mean?
• Karen: I've decided... I'll become the Maiden in Mirei's place.
• Ethan: The Maiden?!
• Karen: Only a few people know about Mirei's death. And no one needs to know what I will do. The Maiden, is the very symbol of love and communion. So I will... carry on the torch. And I do so willingly.
• Ethan: Karen...
• Karen: Karen Erra is no more. From now on, I will be known only as Mirei Mikuna.
• Ethan: Please...

(Karen is bathed in a bright glow, and when it dissipates, she appears in the Maiden's guise)

• Karen: Thank you... good bye. Ethan.

(Karen turns to leave and walks back towards the limo)

• Ethan: Karen...

(Karen enters the limo and it lifts off towards the sky, leaving Ethan standing alone again among the falling leaves) (End Cutscene)

• Narrator: In order to follow a lead that may end the SEED threat, Ethan is ordered by Olbel Daligun, the Guardians President, to head to Mellvore. What lies in the center of the Mellvore explosion?
