Photon Arts are the special attacks of PSU. They are learned from discs, then are equipped to Weapons, and come in three forms, each associated with a weapon type:

  • Skills, used by Melee weapons, are powerful melee attacks that can often extend a combo. Hunters specialize in their use.
  • Bullets, used by ranged weapons, are passive Photon Arts that change a weapon's Element and give it a special Status Effect that can be inflicted upon enemies. Rangers specialize in their use.
  • TECHNICS are the Magic-equivalent in PSU. They can achieve a number of effects, including healing and elemental damage. Casting weapons use Techniques, and thus, only Forces can use them.

Photon Art Levels

When learned and first equipped, all Photon Arts start at Level 1. By using Photon Arts productively (that is to say, using them to damage monsters, heal allies and so on - not just using them constantly) they will eventually level up. Upon leveling up, Photon Arts will become more powerful - e.g., their damage or healing will increase, the chance of Status Effects being inflicted will increase, or the number of combo hits will increase.

A skill usually gains another attack in its combo sequence once it reaches LV11. As with normal melee attacks, you are able to execute a second attack immediately after the first by correctly timing a second press of the attack button.

Also, Bullets gain additional elemental percentage bonuses to the weapon they are equipped on when they reach level 11.

In addition TECHNICS will gain a larger range and a more advanced look once they reach level 11 and once again on level 21.
