The 1Up Platinum Cup is the US equivalent of the JP server's Famitsu Cup (aka Gurhal Crossreview) event. If the Japanese event is any indication, the 1Up Platinum Cup will be a 5-week long event, featuring 4 event missions starting from the newly opened club in Clyez City. One quest will be available for each of the first four weeks, with the fifth week featuring all four quests at once.

In each of the four missions, players were ranked according to their performance. If the highest ranking was obtained, players were able to play one of two (or three) special "EX missions" (each of the four event missions had three EX missions, though the third was only available during the fourth week). In the EX missions, players remained in one room, facing a continuous onslaught of two types of enemies. In this circumstance, the enemies had much lower stats, and their drop rates were approximately five times the norm. After each wave of enemies was defeated, a large number of boxes would appear, from which various rare weapons, boards and materials might drop.

As with Operation Firebreak, completing event missions in the 1Up Platinum Cup will contribute to a server-wide point total. If enough points are earned, various prizes (such as increased item synthesis rates and periods of level 3 Photon Fortune) will be obtained. Furthermore, the special Kubara grenade launcher Song for Death may be available for players who accumulate the highest point totals.

On the 25th of October, SEGA made the mistake of locating the images - previously held elsewhere - along the same pattern as reward images we already had. As an additional part of this event, there will likely be a special "exchange mission" (similar to the Ban-photon exchange in Operation Firebreak). In this mission, players will be able to exchange Rappy Feathers for special items, such as those listed in the following table:

The JP server also had Real Handgun and Twin Real Handgun available during this event (for 20 and 15 Feathers, respectively), but only for those users playing from an officially sponsored NetCafe. It is unlikely that these items will be available in the 1Up Cup exchange mission.

It should be noted that the JP server had a sixth week identical to the fifth, but this week was not originally planned, but was rather reimbursement for unexpected server issues during the event. It is highly unlikely that the 1Up Cup will have a sixth week.

In the regular missions, the goal was to collect three "1UP Chips" (similar to the samples in Her Secret Mission) within the time limit, while dispatching as many enemies as possible. At the end of the mission, the party received a grade of 1 to 10, based on samples collected, enemies killed and time. A score of 8 or higher would equate to an S for the mission. During these regular event missions, all enemies had 250% EXP and 120% drop rates.

Players received 5 points for finishing with the time limit, 3 points for gathering all three 1UP Chips, and 2 points for killing a certain number of enemies.

Latest revision as of 23:49, 17 January 2011

This article pertains to an event which is no longer active, but is kept for historical purposes.

The 1Up Platinum Cup is headed to the Xbox 360, PC, and PS2 servers on October 19th! This exciting global event is a partnership between 1Up.com and Gurhal Channel 5, and will take place in a virutal space: VR Gurhal. This event will be your only chance to pick up some of the rarest and most desired items of Phantasy Star Universe.

GUARDIANS will undertake missions and be evaluated on their intuition, friendship, endurance, and luck. These missions are extremely fun and will truly test GUARDIANS and their ability to perform under pressure. Strive to be the best and achieve the rank of "Platinum Perfect" and a prize so awesome, we can't talk about it here![1]

Event overview

The 1Up Platinum Cup was the English equivalent of the Japanese server's Famitsu Cup (aka Gurhal Crossreview). Spanning a course of four weeks, this event featured four event missions starting from the newly opened CLUB: Commune in Clyez City.

Rewards

As with Operation Firebreak, completing event missions in the 1Up Platinum Cup contributed to a server-wide point total. As points were earned, a variety of prizes were unlocked, such as periods of increased Photon Fortune and item synthesis success rates. The total points earned during this event came to 4,212,511, therefore unlocking all rewards sans the final one. For reference, the final prize image is included in the following table

On the 25th of October, SEGA made the mistake of locating the images - previously held elsewhere - along the same pattern as reward images we already had. Because of this, the rewards became known in advance. The pictures have also been included in the following chart for reference, and can be shown full-size by clicking on them.

[B] Twin Fluor. Bulbs for everyone!
All synth. success +15% for two weeks!
All synth. success +20% for two weeks!

Mission overview

The event missions will be available in this order:

Time Missions
Week 1 (10/19-10/25) Parum (with EX 1, 2)
Moatoob (with EX 1, 2)
Week 2 (10/26-11/1) Neudaiz (with EX 1, 2)
Week 3 (11/2-11/8) Colony (with EX 1, 2)
Week 4 (11/9-11/15) All missions (with EX 1, 2 and 3)

In the regular missions, the goal was to collect three "1UP Chips" (similar to the samples in Her Secret Mission) within the time limit, while dispatching as many enemies as possible. At the end of the mission, the party received a grade of 1 to 10, based on samples collected, enemies killed and time. A score of 8 or higher would equate to an S for the mission. During these regular event missions, all enemies had 250% EXP and 120% drop rates.

Players received 5 points for finishing with the time limit, 3 points for gathering all three 1UP Chips, and 2 points for killing a certain number of enemies.

The mission details were as follows:

Mission rank Required LV Enemy LV
C 1 25+
B 30 55+
A 55 100+

If the party earned an S (8+ points) in the regular event mission, they were able to participate in an EX mission. In an EX mission, players defeated as many waves of enemies as possible within the brief time limit. Enemies in EX missions had 500% drop rates, and all their other stats (including HP and EXP) were at 25%.
