This article pertains to an event which is no longer active, but is kept for historical purposes.
Operation Firebreak was a special event that was run from Friday, May 25, 2007 through June 29, 2007 on the English PC/PS2 and the Xbox 360 PSU servers. Players were required to run special missions to "purify" fire SEED cores on each of the three planets, Parum, Neudaiz, and Moatoob. Completion of these missions earned the standard bonuses gained for mission completion, and also counted towards the global Firebreak score. The cumulative point total was shared between the English language PC and PlayStation 2 versions of PSU and both language versions of the Xbox 360 release.
Before undertaking a Firebreak mission for the first time, players were recommended to take the short tutorial on the event available from the Guardians Colony 5th floor. The tutorial also gave you Goggles, if you had not previously attempted any of the Online Story Missions.
Seven Firebreak missions were made available, in ranks C, B, and A (no S or S2). Unlike the Japanese PC/PS2 version of this event, the standard missions remained available for play. Monsters in Firebreak missions gave larger EXP rewards than usual.

Event overview
- When you began a Firebreak mission, you were given a Photon Eraser as long as your inventory was not full. The Photon Eraser was taken away upon completion of the mission; however, if you quit the game without clearing the mission, or abandoned the mission, you would retain the Photon Eraser. You could (and still can) get rid of it in the Photon Eraser Return mission available from the GUARDIANS Colony 5th Floor under the Old Event Missions category.
- All SEED cores had to be purified to complete each mission (except for Scorched Valley, which has no SEED cores).
- Each SEED core was surrounded by a number of hidden SEED pods. Players had to use the Goggles to locate these pods, and then use the Photon Eraser to purify them. The pods came in two sizes; small pods took one player to purify, while large pods had to be purified by at least three players at once. (Having more players purify the same pod sped up purification.) Once all the pods were purified, the SEED core's defenses were nullified, and it could be destroyed in three hits.
- SEED pods had a good chance of leaving behind Ban-photons when broken.
- SEED cores could leave either Ban-photons or -carbon/-resin items of the appropriate type to the current planet when destroyed.
- With the exception of the end mini-bosses of the levels and rare enemies which may appear, all enemies were Fire element.

Event rewards
As Operation Firebreak progressed, purification points were tallied on the official event site. These points were recorded as an overall total and on a by-planet basis; this information was then used to determine the rewards to be issued to players following the end of the event.
Purification point rewards
The overall purification point tally was used to determine the duration of a megaholy Photon Fortune period for all players. It also unlocked the ability to receive a unique weapon exclusive to Operation Firebreak. Total purification points at the close of the event were 90,217,935, so all of the following rewards were unlocked.
Purification points | Rewards |
---|---|
10,000,000 pts. | One day of megaholy Photon Fortune for all races. |
20,000,000 pts. | Two days of megaholy Photon Fortune for all races. |
30,000,000 pts. | Three days of megaholy Photon Fortune for all races. |
40,000,000 pts. | Four days of megaholy Photon Fortune for all races. |
50,000,000 pts. | Frying Pan (35% fire) for all event participants who cleared each event mission at least once. |

70,000,000 pts. | Six days of megaholy Photon Fortune for all races. |
80,000,000 pts. | Seven days of megaholy Photon Fortune for all races. |
Purification point rewards by planet
Clothes and parts discounts were awarded per planet based on how well each planet was purified of fire SEED contamination. In the charts below, the total purification points earned for each planet will be displayed in the table header, while all cells which are grayed out represent rewards that were not reached.
