Idea
- Just a minor suggestion, but what would everyone think about the possibility of using a "grayed-out" background color for items that have been available at one time but have since been rotated out? --Qwerty 00:12, 13 December 2007 (CST)
- Might be good. I'd also like to see a "Rotation" section that divides sets of items into the time period they were available in. - Miraglyth 01:44, 13 December 2007 (CST)
- I like the grayed-out cell idea. I know of some others places something like that could be put to use, too. With the rotation of items, I could either section off the table we have now with each period's items, or just make brand new tables for each period. Which do you guys think would work/look better? - EspioKaos 10:15, 13 December 2007 (CST)
- OK, I set up a light gray template for this purpose (
{{Rotational item}}
). And since the Modern series should be rotated out tomorrow, I've gone ahead and used this template on those so we can see how it looks. - EspioKaos 11:55, 13 December 2007 (CST)
Music discs
Would it be at all proper to add samples of the PSU Discs to their respective item pages? People are always asking for some place where they can listen to the music before they buy it. Just a thought. Sekani 22:12, 10 January 2008 (CST)
- I love the idea, however a large number of music files (even short clips) would put a pretty nice load on the server after a while. I'm not certain how we stand as far as bandwidth consumption and space, though, so I should leave it up to someone who knows for sure. - EspioKaos 22:20, 10 January 2008 (CST)
- I'm not sure about bandwidth issues, but I doubt it would be a problem, assuming we only used short (like 10-15 seconds) snippets. While we're on the subject, what audio files are even supported on a wiki for upload? The upload page shows .ogg in an example, so I suppose I could use Audacity to export some short Ogg Vorbis snippets of the tracks I have. Not for a while, though, busy with schoolwork at the moment. --Qwerty 22:28, 10 January 2008 (CST)
- On bandwidth: they don't necessarily have to be uploaded to this server (or do they?), and low bit rate MP3s (32kbps) should be good enough for sampling purposes without causing too much server load. Sekani 22:36, 10 January 2008 (CST)
- Well, we could use external links, I suppose, but they have to be uploaded somewhere. If uploading them in the wiki framework is the problem, then anyone with FTP access could just dump them in a different directory. Come to think of it, I've had two whole .mp3s in my directory for quite some time, and no one has ever said anything about it causing bandwidth issues. Of course, they probably aren't accessed too frequently. --Qwerty 22:39, 10 January 2008 (CST)
- Just tried to upload this to test it out, and it's telling me that the only allowed file types are png, gif, and jpg. However, don't see why we couldn't just create a separate directory (psupedia.info/audio?) for linking short snippets of tracks. Also: whoops, guess in-browser media players don't support .ogg, duh. At any rate, mp3s will work just as well; better really, for size. --Qwerty 23:21, 11 January 2008 (CST)
- I wouldn't think this to be a good idea without Hitomi's approval. Until then, it's probably a better idea to use an external source. - Miraglyth 14:15, 12 January 2008 (CST)
- In the meantime, if anyone can e-mail me some samples, I can provide the external source, at least until the site admins decide to enable audio uploads. - Sekani 17:07, 12 January 2008 (CST)
