Operation Firebreak is a special event being run currently on the English PC/PS2 and the Xbox 360 PSU servers. It started the morning of Friday, May 25, 2007 and will run through June 29, 2007. Players must run special missions to "purify" fire SEED cores on each of the three planets, Parum, Neudaiz, and Moatoob. The cores require the use of the goggles to locate. Completion of these missions will earn the standard bonuses gained for mission completion, and will also count towards the global Firebreak score. The cumulative point total is shared between the English language PC and PlayStation 2 versions of PSU and both language versions of the Xbox 360 release.

Before undertaking a Firebreak mission for the first time, players should take the short tutorial on the event available from the Guardians Colony 5th floor. The tutorial will also give you the goggles, if you have not previously attempted any of the Online Story Missions.

At this time, there are five Firebreak missions available, with more to be released at an unspecified time:

Parum - Sea of Fire
Starts from: Holtes City Flyer Base
Ends at: Raffon Field Base

Parum - Burning Garden

B Rank: LV10 required, creatures LV20+
A Rank: LV45 required, creatures LV55+

Neudaiz - Flower of Flames

B Rank: LV10 required, creatures LV25+
A Rank: LV45 required, creatures LV55+

Moatoob - Scorched Valley

The Neudaiz Firebreak missions are the easiest of the set. Both of them operate like standard missions - you are scored on whether or not you killed all the enemies as usual, with the usual penalties if someone dies. The Parum missions are timed, and mission rank is based on how quickly you complete them. The Moatoob mission has a hard time limit based on the mission rank: on C it is 15 minutes, on B it is 20 minutes, and on A it is ?? minutes.

All five Firebreak missions are available in ranks C-A only; no S or S2 versions are currently available. Unlike the Japanese version of this event, the original missions at these locations are still available to be played.
