A researcher with the GUARDIANS Research and Development Department that develops equipment used by the GUARDIANS. She and Karen have a sisterly relationship. Her sultry appearance can be misleading, as her personality is a little on the goofy side. She is partial to goods made with photons.

Maya first appears in Episode 5. She greets the party and shows them around her lab, and agrees to help with the SEED elimination. She is Karen's adoptive older sister; the two get along very well. On top of this, the few times Karen faints, she's generally the first there, and also stays behind during the Onmagoug fight to look after her. During chapter 8, she, Ethan, Lou and Kanal Tomrain activate the anti-SEED weapon; however, when they come back, they find that Lou, Kou Taragi and the few others who were there have been kidnapped. Upon discovering this, she breaks down into tears, showing that there's more to Kou and Maya than you'd expect. She is kidnapped in a Magashi raid and taken to the hive at the end of chapter 11, then rescued during chapter 12. She, along with Hyuga, was being exposed to a large amount of SEED cells in suspended animation, so as to mutate her. When Ethan and Karen rescue her and Hyuga, they press deeper until they find Kou Taragi in a pod like Maya's. He is rescued, but due to overexposure he mutates then and there, resulting in a fight between him and Ethan's party. Afterward, he changes back to normal, but is in a critical state, dying right then and there. Maya breaks into hysterics, to the point where she can't continue, so Hyuga leaves to comfort her and take her back to the Landeel. She's later seen slightly cheered up at the Landeel afterparty.

Shops in PSU are places where you can buy various items, including [[Weapons]], [[Armors]], [[Units]], [[Consumables]], [[Photon Art]] Disks, and [[Synthesis Boards]] and [[Synthesis Materials|Materials]] with the game's currency, [[Meseta]]. You can also sell items you do not need, however in general, the selling rate is very low - see [[Meseta#Meseta Values|Meseta Values]] for more information.

In Story and Extra Mode the variety of items available is currently larger than in Network Mode, this is largely because you are intended to find and/or create through [[Item Synthesis]] many of the items available in Network Mode. However, it can be assumed that the inventories of Shops in Network Mode will grow as more content is unlocked and made available.

There are a variety of different shops in Phantasy Star Universe, each dealing with different items and accessories.

=== Manufacturer Shops ===
Each of the three main Item Manufacturers - [[GRM]], [[Yohmei]] and [[Tenora Works]] have their own shops on their home planets. These larger shopping areas each contain a number of smaller shops, generally selling the products of the manufacturer. The shops that can be found inside a Manufacturer Shop are:

* Weapons Shop - selling Weapons made by that manufacturer (represented by Weapons).
* Armor Shop - selling Armors made by that manufacturer (represented by clothing or Armors).
* Units Shop - selling Units made by that manufacturer (represented by cylinders with coloured parts at each end).
* Grinding Counter - where you grind Weapons made by that manufacturer.

Clothes Shops are where [[Clothes]] for non-[[CAST]] characters can be previewed and purchased.
When entering a clothing shop, you have the option to browse both male and female clothing inventories. Female shop options are located on the left hand side and accessed by talking to the retailer - male options are located to the right. If you browse clothing opposite of your character's gender, you will have to preview the shop's inventory using a default mannequin that's opposite of your character's gender.

Clothes Shops are recognizable by their red signs and symbol.

The Clothes Shop can be found on 3F of the [[Guardians' Colony]] - next to the Parts Shop - as well as together with the Synthesis and Parts Shops on the three planets.

Although the clothing shop on the Guardian's Colony provides all sets of purchasable clothing, shops located on planets will usually provide more colour options for the clothes they carry, as opposed to the Guardian's Colony, which provides limited colour options for each piece of apparel.

In Story and Extra Mode the variety of items available is currently larger than in Network Mode, this is largely because you are intended to find and/or create through [[Item Synthesis]] many of the items available in Network Mode. However, it can be assumed that the inventories of Shops in Network Mode will grow as more content is unlocked and made available.

There are a variety of different shops in Phantasy Star Universe, each dealing with different items and accessories.

=== Manufacturer Shops ===
Each of the three main Item Manufacturers - [[GRM]], [[Yohmei]] and [[Tenora Works]] have their own shops on their home planets. These larger shopping areas each contain a number of smaller shops, generally selling the products of the manufacturer. The shops that can be found inside a Manufacturer Shop are:

* Weapons Shop - selling Weapons made by that manufacturer (represented by Weapons).
* Armor Shop - selling Armors made by that manufacturer (represented by clothing or Armors).
* Units Shop - selling Units made by that manufacturer (represented by cylinders with coloured parts at each end).
* Grinding Counter - where you grind Weapons made by that manufacturer.
* Disk Shop - selling Photon Art Disks (represented by circular Disks).
* Item Shop - selling various consumable items (represented by shelves containing miscellaneous items).

Clothes Shops are where [[Clothes]] for non-[[CAST]] characters can be previewed and purchased. When entering a clothing shop, you have the option to browse both male and female clothing inventories. Female shop options are located on the left hand side and accessed by talking to the retailer - male options are located to the right. If you browse clothing opposite of your character's gender, you will have to preview the shop's inventory using a default mannequin that's opposite of your character's gender.

Clothes Shops are recognizable by their red signs and symbol.

The Clothes Shop can be found on 3F of the [[Guardians' Colony]] - next to the Parts Shop - as well as together with the Synthesis and Parts Shops on the three planets.

Although the clothing shop on the Guardian's Colony provides all sets of purchasable clothing, shops located on planets will usually provide more colour options for the clothes they carry, as opposed to the Guardian's Colony, which provides limited colour options for each piece of apparel.

Parts Shops are similar to Clothes Shops, but they sell [[Parts]] only for [[CAST]] characters. Like with the clothes shop, you must speak with the clerk who matches your gender if you wish to buy or try on Parts for your character! If you speak to the opposite gender, or are not a CAST, you will only be able to try on clothes on a generic character.

Parts Shops are recognizable by their blue signs and symbol.
