<font color="red">Red: Online specific information.</font><br /><font color="blue">Blue: Offline specific information.</font>

Partner Machineries (パートナーマシナリー), or PMs (パシリ) for short, are floating pet robots, and can be found in the player's room. In Story Mode, Ethan's PM is called 'Pete', but in Extra Mode and Network Mode players are able to choose and change their PM's names. A PM's Luck is equal to that of Female Cast characters.

PMs have several functions, including:
* Item Storage (~300 items)
* Item Synthesis
* Engaging in combat as a sidekick (fourth-stage only)
* Providing plot information and hints (Story Mode)
* Shopkeeper (Online)

PMs have specific attributes, as well:
* Striking - indicates the proficiency in synthesizing Melee Weapons
* Ranged - indicates the proficiency in synthesizing Ranged Weapons
* Technic - indicates the proficiency in synthesizing Casting Weapons
* Armor - indicates the proficiency in synthesizing Armors
* Production Level (max. 100) - the sum of the four attributes above; PM evolution occurs as the Production Level rises
* Battle Stat (B St.) or Combat Level (max. 100) - dictates a PM's efficiency in combat (presumably only AI and chat lines?); the increments for its EXP bar increase upon Mission completion, depending only on the overall resultant rank.

* S rank: about 25% (from 0% into a level, four S Ranks are not enough for one level. It's probably 24%.)
* A rank: about 15%
* B rank: about 10%
* C rank: about 5%

To increase those first four attributes, PMs can be fed items, via the "Give item" submenu of Partner Machinery Functions. PM Feeding (called that due to the PM commenting how the item tasted) is subject to some simple constraints:

* If you feed a PM one item, its "fed" count raises by 1.
* Once a PM is "fed" count reaches 100 it becomes "full" and you cannot feed it any more.
* If a PM has not been fed for 12 hours ("full" or not), its "fed" count gets reset to 0.

Partner Machinery will refuse to eat Synthesis Boards, Grinders and Presents. When the Production Level reaches a designated point, the PM will "evolve" into a new form that varies according to the individual attributes that contribute to the Production Level. These distinct PM evolutions each specialize either in Striking, Range or Technic; there are none that specialize in Armor. Battle-usable evolutions have associated combat behaviour and equipment. Not much is known about their combat stats, other than that they are dependent on the PM's form and Combat Level.

Only the leader of a party may summon his or her battle-usable PM to combat. The PM is capable of taking damage and dying like any ordinary player as well as reducing final trial rewards through death. PMs affect experience gain in combat in the same way ordinary players do. Battle-usable PM's have the luck score of a female cast.

The item PM Device ZERO is used to reset each of the PM's stats to zero. Although the PM will reset its level and any advanced form will be lost, the storage remains unaffected.
Fourth-Stage PMs
When PMs evolve to their fourth stage, they will become usable in battle and will grant their owner their own Partner Card to call upon them at anytime. In any party only the PM of the leader may participate. Like NPCs, PMs will automatically revive in a minute, but unfortunately their deaths affects Mission results nonetheless. In battle, a PM is always ten levels higher than their owner's. As this increases, they will become more powerful like regular characters would. A PM's Production Level and Striking, Ranged, Armor and Technic stats do not have any influence on this.

; Calculating
*Based on the GH-440, the PM will 'take aim' at a target and attack after a short delay. It is
unclear whether this 'aiming' increases accuracy or not, or whether the time taken is reduced
as the PM levels.
~Thanks to Lunatari (Xbox 360) and Mia (Xbox 360) for spotting this out with there GH-420 (Rabbit! and -) ^_^
; Support
*According to my experience with a GH-450, It will support the party by casting Jellen numerous
times. It will also cast resta for the master unlike other NPC.
~Thanks to Tahldon (Xbox 360) for letting me view his GH-450 (Hina Ichigo) ^_^
; With group
*According to my experiences with a GH-430, "with group" means it fights the same monster as you do
(mainly you can just hit the monster once and it will chase after it) and or your alternate NPC
(2nd NPC if added)
; With owner
*According to my experiences with a GH-410, the PM will stay by your side until a enemy is within
its striking distance. Great for shielding because if the enemy approaches you, your PM will
fight it.
Newly Available PMs
There are currently 18 PM evolutions, linked to 'PM Evolution Devices'. For example, using a 'PM 411 Device' on a GH410 will evolve the PM into the corresponding evolution. Details about GH305~7 and GH461~5 are still unclear. To evolve, just simply feed the item to your PM. There are some restrictions, however. A PM cannot evolve out of its model line, say from a 430 to a 451. It must also be at the required level, so skipping to a 4xx early is out of the question. You can, however, move freely within a model line. For example, say a player changes their 410 to a 412, but doesn't like it for some reason. Provided they're willing to shell out 50k each for the items, they can change it within the 41x line as much as they want.

Both the JP and US/EU versions of the game has the Partner Machine Evolution Kits available. But only for the 4x1 (411,421,431,441,451) and 4x2 (412,422,432,442,452) types, unfortunately. No information on the 46x types yet.

The New PMs change in appearance and weapon, some featuring S rank weapons as well! Great for those with an acquired taste for expensive items; others will just get plain jealous.

The 4x2 series of PMs(412,422,432,442,452) actually carry SUV weapons! Each one features an extra slot, but only certain few will get the SUV, while the 4x1 series(411,421,431,441,451), for example, will get HP regeneration (Me/Hp Restore).

PaleFire: Vunde Val --> Vande Val (English version game spells it like this)

Nanoblasting is the Beasts' racial ability. They can temporarily transform into a more animalistic and beastial form, improving their abilities in combat. This transformation is possible because of the extensive genetic modification that Beasts underwent in their creation. On Moatoob, the Beast home planet, there is a law against Nanoblasting in cities, as the Beasts are a hot-blooded and proud people, given to fighting. This law carries strict penalties.

Obtaining Nanoblasts
Beasts require a Blast Badge in order to transform. This is a kind of tattoo Beasts have on their arm, and different Blast Badges will result in different forms with different abilities. A Beast of at least Character Level 20 can purchase a Blast Badge for 10,000 Meseta in Lumilass (can be found on 3F of the Guardians Colony next to the Clothes Shop, recognizable by a pink sign).

Using the Nanoblast
When a Beast has a Blast Badge, the Damage Gauge below your character name and level will fill up as you take and deal damage in Missions, similar to the Photon Blast system in Phantasy Star Online.

PC controls: When full, the gauge will shine and pressing, by default, the Down and Right arrow keys together will then activate the Nanoblast.

360 controls: When full, the gauge will shine and pressing, by default, the X and Y buttons together will then activate the Nanoblast.

PS2 controls: When full, the gauge will shine. Then switch into a blank spot on your weapons palette, and press Triangle and Square as the appear to trigger the Nanoblast. Triangle and Square are used to attack simultaneously.

Some Advice: If using any Nanoblast except the Vunde Val (invincibility) tattoo, take note that Beasts are unable to use items whilst the Nanoblast is in effect. It is advisable to 1) make sure your HP is at max before activating the Nanoblast, and 2) perhaps have a Resta-user close by.
Description
The Onmagoug is a massive demon that can fly, throw fire, and has several other tricks. Hitting its wings will damage them enough that it can temporarily not fly. When flying high above the ground, it cannot be attacked with melee weapons and a gun (or other ranged weapon that allows first-person shooter perspective) is required to hit it. There is a similar creature on Moatoob called the Dimmagolus.

Description
A giant robot boss similar to the boss Adahna Degahna except much taller and much harder to kill. The main difference between the 2 robots is that this boss has 2 forms. His second form can only be killed (unless you attack his arms) by ranged attacks. Like Degahna, Magas does warp around the battlefield and creates a shield that makes him damage immune. The main differences between Magas and Degahna are:

(1) Magas is lightning element. (2) Magas uses a giant sword instead of a whip. (3) The missile attack that Magas launches targets EVERY party member and relentlessly follows each member until the attack is over. (4) Magas will use 2 variations of the sword attack. 1 is to charge forward with it and the other is to spin in a 360 degree angle. (5) Unlike Degahna, Magas usually only stands still when launching an attack.

* FYI- The 1st form mentioned is his regular form where his leg areas are targets. Once those have taken significant damage they are destroyed to reveal wheels. The wheels take up Magas' leg areas for the rest of the battle. The downside is that the wheels are like saw blades and so much as touching them causes damage to a player. The 2nd downside is that the wheels do not act as targets for hunters to attack. His arms and upper body are the only targets open for attack leaving this battle extremely hard for hunters to bear with. Magas moves around much more frequently than Degahna making targeting this boss an extreme challenge. Also the missile attack Magas does can decimate a whole party if so much as one missile connects. Once a missile is able to hit a player the other missiles have a good chance of connecting as well because there is a slight flinch after getting hit by one. The only chance to escape is to constantly run around the battlefield.

* Note: It is possible to kill Magas before he goes into second form - just attack the arms, and ignore the legs. This is a good idea for hunters especially, as the second form seems to keep the arms in the air more often. A good skill to use is the Double Saber PA: Tornado Dance, as that can hit the arms several times before they move. However Tornado dance only applies to fighgunners as they are the only ones who can use Double Sabers. For other classes it should be a priority to avoid going for his legs but if that proves impossible to hit his arms then by all means get some damage done somehow; even if it means going for the legs.

* For Beast Characters and all Hunters Classes- His second form provides the most challenge to Beast characters. Since the nanoblast would allow a beast to attack his legs. The arms are the only part of him that are available to attack. However Magas rasies his arms a lot to launch a barrage of ranged attacks making hitting his arms a challenge as well.

* For Ranger Classes- You'll be depended upon most of the battle because of his constant movement, and when Magas' 2nd form comes into play.

*For Force Classes- You'll be healing a lot and counter-acting the negative status effects Magas puts on your party. He can debuff the party with Zalure and Jellen and cause burn with his missiles.

Description
Dimmagolus is basically the Moatoob version of the boss Onmagoug. However Dimmagolus has some slightly different traits. Like Onmagoug though he does use a lot of the same attacks. The only attacks which is identical to both is the use of using worm like creatures to stun you from beneath the ground and the throwing of rocks. The differences are:

(1) Dimmagolus is of Earth Element.
(2) Instead of throwing Ollaka, Dimmagolus throws Jishagara.
(3) The fireballs that Dimmagolus sends out are of Lightning element, getting hit by one of these may cause paralysis.
(4) Dimmagolus recovers much faster than Onmagoug when his wings become shredded.
(5) Like Onmagoug's lightning attack (during A and S-rank missions only) Dimmagolus uses a Wind Release Attack.

*FYI*- The Wind Release is the only extremely dangerous attack you must be careful of. Dimmagolus will usually use this attack right after stunning a player with the underground worm things. However this is when Dimmagolus' wings are exposed the most. When he uses the Wind Release he will fold his wings over his arms making them very easy to hit. The downside is that the Wind Release will hit everything close to and in front on him. The weakness to this attack is to stay directly behind him (This may not always guarantee your safety). Also getting continuously hit by the Wind Release will infect a player with poison.

Description
Adahna Degahna (Japanese: アダーナ・デガーナ Adaana Degaana) is a massive piloted robot and one of the major bosses of PSU, created by the COG for unknown purposes. Despite this, it seems to be popular with rebel COG groups who have broken away from the main organization.

It is capable of temporarily surrounding itself with an impenetrable barrier around it. This suggests that Yohmei Corp build these machines, as they have links to the COG and also are known for their shielding technology.

In addition, it can fire a spray of bullets in front of itself, and can fire powerful missiles targeted at players (the missiles can be evaded, however, by running away from the targeted areas, which are shown with white rings). It also has a powerful photon whip, and is capable of teleporting all over the arena. While teleporting and rematerializing, the Adahna Degahna cannot be targeted.

In Story Mode, this boss is piloted by one of the main story NPCs. However, in Network Mode there appears to be no-one in the cockpit, but it can be assumed somebody is piloting it - a scream can be heard when the Degahna explodes after being defeated.

Weakpoint Info
*Excellent Damage: Arms
*Good Damage: Body

Adahna Degahna has a massive weak point that can make defeating him easy. The backside of the Adahna Degahna is shaped like an upside down U (or a capital H, or a lowercase n). If a character wedges in between the robot's jutting shoulder plates and the Degahna targets him, it'll spin around to acquire it's target - but the shoulder plates will continue to push the character around in circles, and it'll just keep spinning around while characters with ranged weapons can plink away.

Character customization
As with PSO, character creation plays in important part in creating the character which is perfect for you. The depth of the creation is vast, and you can make anything from a gigantic war machine to a tiny elf girl.

Comparison
Phantasy Star Online had an advanced character creator for its time, and it is still advanced as RPGs go. However compared to PSU it seems limited. With PSU you can change all your facial features instead of just choosing a face, e.g. eye color, eyebrows, facial hair etc.

Character Creation
The first stage of character creation is Race and Gender selection. The choices available are: Human, Newman, Cast and Beast, with Male and Female variants for each.

*Select a face type. For organic (non-CAST) face types, there is a quadrant-style slider at the bottom that allows you to modify your character's facial structure. Note that organic male characters generally have more options here, including different styles of facial hair.

*Select an eye type. Here you can change how the pupils look. At the bottom is a slider that allows you to choose from a wide variety of color swatches. Note that most CAST eyes do not have the pupil option--you can only change their color.

*Select the eyebrow shape. You have options from bushy, angry, "normal," etc.

*Select eyeliner. This is only for organic face types. Note that you have the option of not having eyeliner.

*Ear options. For Humans, the ears can either lay flat against the head or protrude to the side. For Newmans, the ears can either point up or down. For Beasts, the ears can be long, bushy, or droop. CASTs with organic faces also have different "ear" options akin to antennas and headsets.

*Select a hair style/head type. For organic face types, you can select from a wide variety of hair styles. For CASTs, you can select a head or helmet to go over your character's head.

*Select undergarments. You have five options for all organic characters.

*Select color/sub-color. This is only for CASTs. Select a primary color, then a secondary color to go with it. Unlike clothing, all CAST parts that you purchase will match the colors you select here.

*Select your skin color. Use the slider to pick out a skin tone for your character.

*Proportion. Here you can change your character's height. A quadrant slider on the bottom allows you to modify your character's proportions from lean, muscular, to heavy.

*Select clothing/parts. For non-CAST characters, you have a small variety of standard clothing to choose from with color scheme options. For CASTs, you can select three part types for each body part (torso, legs, arms), which will automatically take on your current color scheme. You can buy more clothes and parts once you start the game.

*Name your character. Use the in-game keyboard (or a USB keyboard) to type in your character's name.

Nanoblasts

One of the four PSU playable races. CASTs (usually known as Casts) are androids, though in PSO episode III they were referred to as 'Humanoids' instead. CASTs are unique in that they are able to use SUV Weapons. CASTs are quantitatively not the dominant species on any of the planets, but on Parum they make up most of the government. They are also unique in that they are the only class that wears Parts instead of Clothes for aesthetics, and can only use Hair Accessories when using a humanoid head, with hair.

* Home Planet: Parum
* NPC Partner: Lou

Visuals
CASTs are potentially the most clunky and bulky characters in the game in terms of design, although they can be very lean and muscular. They can have either a robotic face, or one that looks quite human. Depending on which face style is chosen, certain accessories may or may not be used. It is worth noting that, once you have chosen either a robotic or a humanoid face, the facial type cannot currently be changed after character creation is finalized.

Racial Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
* Able to use SUV Weapons. These are Photon Blast-esque attacks that do massive damage.
* They excel in Attack Power making them great Hunters.
* Their ATA is great, making them even better Hunters and excellent Rangers, too.
* Their HP is almost as good as Beasts'.
* Unlike in PSO, they can cast TECHNICS if they switch their class to Force.
* They gain stat bonuses for the Ranger and Fortegunner Types.

Weaknesses
* They are relatively bad forces.
* Their Resta is expected to be insufficient at higher levels, as well as their damage Techniques.
* Racially suffer from the lowest EVP and MST.
When will the game be released?
See Release.
Game cost and online fee questions.
How much will the game cost to buy?
For those in the UK, it's set to be (around) £35, and for American users, it costs $50 for the PC and PS2 versions ($60 for the Xbox 360 version).

Will there be a fee to play online?
Yes, there will be a monthly fee in order to play Phantasy Star Universe online. The recurring charge will be $9.99/month (USD), and the billing will be handled by the PlaySega website (for the PC and PS2 versions). There is also a 6-month one-time payment option, the price of which is set at $49.95. This saves $10 dollars over 6 months of the recurring one-month subscription.

* The billing for the 360 version seems to be handled on the Live Marketplace, with varying costs for different countries.
*£6.99 for UK xbox360 version

Will I get a free month of online with purchase of the game?
* The Japanese version did have one free month with game purchase.
* For the US/EU release, the one-month payment plan comes with a free 15 day trial for new subscribers, whereas new subscribers purchasing the 6-month plan receive 30 free days (in addition to the 6 they buy, so it works out to 7 months for the price of 5 [for new subscribers]).
* Xbox360 users do not benefit from any form of free trials.

I heard that non-JP people cannot pay for PSU, is this true?
This is true, but only for the Japanese version. Sega blocked all Non-Asian credit cards. You can pay via Netcash or a friend in Japan and PayPal.

How can I pay for online play? Will there be prepaid cards available?
For the PC and PS2 versions, payment can be made on the PlaySega website using either a credit or debit card. Currently, only Visa and Mastercard cards are accepted. Currently, there are no known plans to release prepaid cards for the PC and PS2 versions. However, prepaid Visa or Mastercard giftcards will be accepted.

Will the PC version be available for download, or only in retail locations?
Currently, there are no known plans to have the PC version of PSU available for purchase via download over the Internet.

Server Linking
Cross-platform Linking
The PC and PS2 versions will share the same server, while the Xbox 360 version will have its own separate server. This may be due to the voice chat facility, or the Xbox Live subscription system, or Microsoft having influence over/control of the servers.

Cross-terrority Linking
For the PC and PS2 versions, US and EU players will play on the same server, while the JP server will be separate.
The server for the Xbox 360 version is international, including all three regions.

So, PS2 and PC play on the same servers, is my account shared between the two platforms?
Yes; in Japan owners of the PS2 & PC games can use their account on either a PS2 or PC copy of the game.

What measures are Sonic Team taking against cheating and hacking?
On the PC version of the game, Sonic Team are using nProtect GameGuard in order to monitor computers for applications that can be used to modify the game or otherwise cheat in-game. This is the same program that was used on Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst, and most programs used to cheat on that game do not work currently.

It can be suspected as well that Sonic Team have implemented their own internal measures against cheating as well. This may be a major difference from all versions of PSO, which did not appear to give much consideration to security (hence the rampant cheating on several versions).

GameGuard will not be used on PS2 and Xbox360, for what should be obvious reasons (you can't run other programs on them).

Also, it will be worth pointing out that PSU utilizes server-side saving for Network Mode characters. Story Mode and Extra Mode are client-side, however.
I heard that you will require a constant internet connection to play PSU, is this true?
For the PC version of the game, it is true, even if you play Story Mode or Extra Mode. The reason behind this is to prevent people from cheating before going online, and because PSU on PC uses GameGuard. The PS2 and Xbox360 versions do not require a constant internet connection.

I do not use Windows, I use Linux - can I still play PSU?
At this time, no. There will be no official Linux version of PSU released as of yet (and there has been no indication there ever will be one), and WINE (the popular Windows compatibility layer) does not support GameGuard, rendering the game unplayable on Linux until someone solves that. You WILL however be able to play if you cut your Linux partition by about 10 gigs and make a new, Windows one.

I use a Mac, can I play PSU on that?
No. There is not even any indication that a Mac version of PSU will be released. However, the ability to run Windows on the newer Macs somewhat invalidates this problem.

Do I need a PS2 HDD to play Phantasy Star Universe?
No, you don't need one. However, client patches will be stored on the Memory Card, so you will need one of those.

It has been revealed that a PSU savegame file will take up 2,680kb of space on a PS2 memory card.

Game Questions
What modes of play does PSU have?
PSU has three modes of play - Story Mode, Extra Mode and Network Mode.

*In Story Mode, you take the role of Ethan Waber as he travels across the Gurhal Star System in order to save it from the alien force 'SEED'.
*In Extra Mode, you can create your own character and travel through levels you have cleared in Story Mode. This mode plays similar to the Network Mode, but is offline. You can also call upon NPCs you have befriended with Ethan in Story Mode to battle alongside you (they will be controlled by AI).
*In Network Mode, sometimes called 'online' or 'Online Mode' you play online with other people. You can create your own character and play with friends. Little is known about the story of Network Mode, but it does take place after the events of the Story Mode. This is closest to the gameplay of Phantasy Star Online.

Is there an Offline Multiplayer mode?
No.

Can I use characters/items from the offline modes online?
No. Offline and Online are seperate.

What will PSU play like?
See Gameplay.
How many characters will I be allowed on an account?
Four per account per world for online play. (Confirmed by Beatrixkiddo)

Story & Extra mode also allow for four character saves.

Will there be an active GM Team?
It's currently believed that lobbies will be moderated by GMs. During the Closed Beta Trial GMs often made announcements which scrolled across the game screen.
How many people can play together?
The limit of players in a party is 6. (Confirmed by Beatrixkiddo)
Will there be PvP, or a return of Battle Mode?
As of yet there is no form of PvP in PSU. The emphasis is on co-operative gameplay, not PvP. It may be added in the future.

Have shared banks been implemented?
Yes! Now transferring items between characters will be quick and easy.

Will there be Challenge Mode and S-Rank Weapons?
Currently there is no word on Challenge Mode or S-Rank Weapons.

What's this I'm hearing about a cracked Character Creator from the Beta?
It's a hacked client, and unless you know someone from the Beta with the files, it's very hard to get hold of. Its legality is disputed, too, obviously. Posting links to the cracked client is not allowed here.
This site should take care of all your character creation needs for now.

Accounts
A 'Hunters' License' is now called a Guardians' License. Each account can have up to four characters for Network Mode and four for Extra Mode.

Characters
Race, Sex and Class
There are four races in PSU, three of them taken from PSO - Humans, Newmans, Casts and an all new race - Beasts. PSU also retains the three class types from PSO - Hunter, Ranger, and Force. Casts are capable of being Forces.

Whereas in PSO only a number of combinations of race, sex and class were legal for playable characters, this system has been done away with in PSU. All of these can be chosen independently, and Character Classes can even be switched in the first city, at the costs of Meseta fees, and independent 'Class Levels' for each class, which are to be distinguished from the static Character Level, and can be increased by doing well in Missions. Supposedly, classes have been designed such that the game would reach a higher level of balance than PSO did.

Also, the Beast race has been added, which has access to a special racial ability called Nanoblast. Cast characters (formerly also known as 'androids' or 'humanoids') have been augmented with the ability to use abilities akin to the Photon Blast/Photon Mirage from PSO known as SUV Weapons.

Finally, 'Expert Types' have been implemented, allowing the player to further focus on one of the three basic types (becoming either a Fortefighter, Fortegunner or Fortetecher), or take on some abilities of a second type (becoming either a Fighgunner, Wartecher or Guntecher), allowing for more customisation.

Character Customization
The character customization potential in PSU is a lot higher than that in PSO, though for all races but androids, the differences compared to each other are only few. Unlike in PSO, it is now also possible to add voices to one's character. For more in-depth information, please check Character Customization.

Online Locations
Ships -> Universes
What was known as a 'Ship' in PSO is now known as a Universe. These will have numbers rather than names, and upon log-in a player will be randomly sent to one of them, in order to better distribute activity across the different universes. To be able to see the characters of people on other universes again, characters can always switch among them using special warp blocks that can be found just about anywhere. Each Universe, is capable of holding 1,000 players at any one time.

Blocks -> Cities and Rest Points
The old Blocks do not exist anymore in PSU, but have been replaced by a somewhat similar system. There are a number of cities spread out over three planets (plus a space colony) that can be seen in the same way, though they are quite a bit bigger, and can contain a lot more players (if applicable, no limits known as of now). It's possible to travel (read: warp) among these cities using the transport facilities they have. It is to be noted that the term 'Block' is still used in PSU, but now refers to a part of a mission.

Games -> Missions
While in PSO it was possible to make an instanced game and then load a quest from any lobby, in PSU you will actually have to travel to the location where a certain 'Mission' (the new equivalents of areas and quests) takes place. These are still instanced, but will be limited to six rather than four players at a time. It is possible to change the name, comment, password and item distribution settings of a Mission instance at any time. The latter is capable of having drops (separate for items above the 'rare threshold' of Star Rarity eight) be distributed randomly, making sure the 'get-whatever-you-can' strategy that was popular among the highly populated parts of PSO, where interpersonal trust was generally low, can be avoided. Whenever a rare item has been picked up, a message will pop up stating the details. The old difficulties (Normal, Hard, Very Hard and Ultimate) are now known as the 'Mission ranks' C, B, A and S. The level restrictions for each of these varies for each Mission.

Not all Missions will have bosses at the end, but those that do not will lead the players to certain 'rest points', areas similar to the cities but with only a vendor NPC at most. From here, new Missions would be accessible, which might have a boss. From this perspective, the system is similar to how a player had to play through the 'Cave 1' and 'Cave 2' areas before being able to play Cave 3 and battle the boss. Also nice to note is that upon log-on in PSU, it is possible to start again at the location from which the character last quit or disconnected by other means. On a sidenote, there are also options to check out the equipment and statistics of characters in the same Mission or Party.

NPC Shops
Shops can now be found in cities (and restock NPCs at rest points), rather than in games. The inventories will be different for most shops, but unlike in PSO they will carry useful and cool items, and Meseta will be more scarce. These are different from the new Player Shops that are to be introduced in PSU.

There are a number of different shops, including Synthesis Shops that sell items for Item Synthesis, Weapons Shops that sell various weapons and Photon Arts, and Armor Shops.

My Room
My Room itself
New to PSU, each character will have an instance of a special area called 'My Room'. This room can be decorated by its owner, and can fulfill various other purposes. As with other instanced areas (Missions), only six players can visit them at the same time. The most notable features of the My Room are that it houses an account-based storage place (allowing for items to be transferred to alternate characters without needing other players to hold them), a player's Partner Machinery, and, if applicable, the Player Shop. The My Room can also be locked with a password to prevent unwanted players from entering it. There will be an in-game log of people that entered one's My Room, by which the My Rooms of these players can be tracked.

Mags -> Partner Machinery
Partner Machinery (or 'PM' for short) is what replaces the old Mags. They have four stats that can be increased and can evolve like mags, but are apparently limited to one per account, and cannot be equipped. Their statistics will likely be of use after they evolve sufficiently in order to be able to participate in battle, as some sort of 'sidekick NPC'. They can also be used to craft new items in a process called Item Synthesis.

Players Shops
For a one-time fee, characters will be able to get their own shops in their My Room, to resell the items they do not need. The Partner Machinery will function as an NPC vendor, so that it does not matter whether the buyer and seller are actually online at the same time. It is possible to find other players' personal shops by searching by character/shop name, description keywords or inventory items.

Item Synthesis
A character's Partner Machinery is capable of synthesizing special 'Synthesis Boards' (also informally referred to as 'recipes') together with 'Synthesis Ingredients' into new items. A PM's statistics are able to influence the success rate and the crafting time at which this happens for certain items, so this system might be seen as to replace the old Section IDs. For some of the craftable items the ingredients used are variable, and changing these influence the statistics of the resulting item, or even what item results from the process itself.

Communication
Teams and Parties
The 'Team system' from PSO:BB, has also been done away with. Parties can exist even outside of Games/Missions though, allowing for easy communication and staying together to start new Missions.

Regular Chat, Party Chat and Simple Mail
Regular chat in PSU will appear in chat balloons (not using the same color for each player), will be limited to a similar amount of letters, and will reach all players within the same instance, as in PSO. Party Chat is sort of the same as Team Chat from PSO:BB (meaning it's like an IRC channel for the people that are in it), and Simple Mail hasn't really changed at all other than the addition of a 'reply with quote' option. It is possible to use color tags in regular chat. Obscenity filters still exist, but do not filter regular words containing obscene words ('saturday'; 'basement'; 'shoes') anymore. It is notable that when multiple players in the same instance say the exact same thing using regular chat, the chat balloons will merge into a bigger one, with a bigger font. Chat shortcuts still exist, as before. Options for 'shout' and 'think' chat bubbles have been added.

Guild Cards -> Partner Cards
'Guild Cards' are now known as Partner Cards. Besides those of players, such cards of NPCs from the Story Mode (one per character, depending on character race) can be obtained, and of one's Partner Machinery as well, in order to have them participate in Missions. Unlike in PSO, whether a player is online will be shown instantly in the Partner Card overview menu. The cards can now only be sorted through numbers ranging from 1 to 5. They can be used to track a player's location and their online/offline status. A player's online status can be checked without 'searching' them, as in PSO - there is a small icon for each card that is grey if the player is offline, and white if the player is online. The card also has the information showing what universe they presently are located in. It is also possible to trace this for members of the same party.

Lobby Animations
New versions of the old lobby animations are present. These can For more information, see Lobby Animations.

Symbol Chat -> Cut-In Chat
Cut-In Chat replaces the old Symbol Chat. The player can choose from a number of facial emotions and angles, append some text, and have both appear in the screen at the same time. Only two of these can be displayed simultaneously, to prevent potential spamming possibilities. For more information and screenshots, check Cut-In Chat (to be added?).

Word Select
Like in the US/International version of PSO:BB, Word Select does not exist in PSU, possibly because of the decision to have the Japanese servers be separate from the Western ones.

Offensive Users
It is possible to 'silence' offensive users, or to kick or ban people (and kick summoned NPCs) from one's games. Also, all private areas (meaning Missions and My Rooms) can be locked with passwords.

Gameplay and Miscellaneous
Controls
The controls are very similar to those of PSO, and will not take much time getting used to. The moving animations are smoother and faster, but the 'auto run/walk' function from PSO:BB does not exist anymore. Some ranged weapons can now be aimed/fired from first-person view though, and some also support being used while moving around. A targeting system has been implemented reminiscent to that of the The Legend of Zelda series, allowing for sidestepping (but no jumping or rolling and no backflips). New is the ability to wield two weapons at a time (some weapons use up both hands, some use the left hand, some the right), allowing for more diversity in ones attacks. PSU also supports controller vibration.

Special Attacks and Techniques -> Photon Arts
Special attacks (or 'Extra Attacks') and Techniques still exist in PSU, but they are now part of a system called Photon Arts (also known as 'PAs'). These rely on a weapon stat called 'Photon Points' (PP), replacing the old Technique Points (TP). There are three sub-types, one native to each of the three main classes: Skills (Hunters), Bullets (Rangers) and Techniques (Forces). Out of these, only Techniques are exclusive to a single class. A character can only know thirty-six (36) PAs at a time. They each have an independent level, that can be increased by just using the PA in question a lot (not on thin air). PAs can be applied to weapons (they can be assigned to different pallet buttons this way), but the details regarding their usage is mostly unique for each sub-type. For more information, please consult their respective pages.

Challenge Mode and Battle Mode
Challenge Mode and Battle Mode are currently absent in PSU, but may be added later on.

Death Penalties
Characters will not receive direct penalties for dying in battle. Instead, this will influence one's ratings obtained at the end of a Mission, which would decide the reward (in Meseta and EXP for class levels).

Telepipes and Ryuker -> Block Warps
It is not possible to allow for characters to warp to just about any place anymore. Instead, Missions have been split up into a few 'Blocks', at the start of each of which there is a Warp Crystal to the other ones the party has already reached.

Soloing
Though characters are restricted to the limits of a single class until they can use Expert Classes, there are still plenty of options to play Missions solo. Players can call in the help of an NPC from Story Mode that has the same class as themselves, as well as of their Partner Machinery (if it is battle-usable yet). Besides that, the stacking limit for some important healing items has been increased (x20 for the old Mates -- Fluids have been replaced), and the game has items that can increase one's stats (similarly to Shifta and Deband from PSO, which also still exist).

Stats
The old Luck (LCK) stat has been replaced by a new stat called Endurance(?) (END?). Whereas Luck determined the critical hit rate in PSO, Endurance seems to influence the PP generation rate in PSU. There is also a new stat similar to the old DFP that determines 'magical defense'. The old resistances have been replaced with the Shield Line System.

There is however a new Luck system, which is completely separate from your stats. This system will allow randomly select players daily to be given special bonus effects. Those effected by Luck will have a shining star next to their name and numerous bonuses will occur, ranging from more successful grinding to a higher rare drop rate.

New Item Types
PSU has a number of new sub-types of Items, and of Weapons specifically, while some old ones have been removed. Please consult their respective pages for more information.

Grinding
The grinding system has been altered, and is now useful even for Force Weapons. The maximum grind value is now +10 for all items, but each step up will significantly increase its attacking power (a similar magical stat for Force Weapons), as well as its PP. On the down-side, Grinders are now harder to come by, and attempting to grind an item might break it, rendering it useless. For more information, see Grinding.

Offline Modes
There are two modes accessible offline. On one hand there is the Story Mode, featuring Ethan Waber, which is supposed to offer about 50 hours of gameplay. On the other hand, there is Extra Mode, which is mainly different from the former in that it allows players to use their own characters instead (though these are separate from those from the online Network Mode). In short, Extra Mode is mainly aimed at console players that do not have online access.

Vehicles
A number of vehicles can be used both online and offline in certain places, including tanks and ridable dinosaurs. For more information, see Vehicles.

Content Updates
Completely unlike PSO, PSU will supposedly even get new content additions regularly. It has been hinted that there will be an automatic delay on content updates based on the release date for JP PSU compared to US. For example, if, two months after the release of JP PSU, a new quest is released, it will be released two months after the release of US PSU on that version.

Monsters
Monsters have a somewhat better AI in PSU than they had before, as some monsters will side step or fade back when near you, resulting in your character most likely missing his/her melee combo. There are also special 'leader' versions of monsters (that have the same name as their regular counterparts), that can support and lead their subordinates. Rare enemies also make an appearance (which now include Rag Rappies). PSU features nine bosses, whose battles are more epic than before, featuring huge arenas. Bosses generally have weak points, and have the ability to strengthen themselves. All monsters have one element associated with them, replacing the old attributes (Native, A. Beast, Machine, Dark). These can be used to find out what they might be weak to. There are six elements, with Fire, Ice, Lightning, Light and Dark returning from PSO and a new element - Ground.
AMF
The "Allied Military Forces" army was created by the Alliance Treaty.

One hundred years ago, when the last great war ended, this army stopped the three planets from continuing to fight each other, and so the three planets co-existed in peace. The name 'Allied Military Forces' is abbreviated as "AMF".

Led independently rather than being under the control of the governments of the three planets, they are a neutral organization, but their goal is to use their overwhelming power to cause military riots and to suppress the system.

The AMF is funded by each of the planetary governments, and is comprised almost exclusively of Casts.
The Endrum Collective is a special ops force affiliated with the AMF.

Other than the fact that their goal is the 'preservation of the Relics' and that the person in charge of this group is known as 'Endrum Harness', everything about this group is shrouded in secrecy. According to some reports, they have been in existence for over thirty years; but because the organization disappeared, and SEED invaded, no-one knows the real details anymore...
The Communion of Gurhal is the theocratic government of Neudaiz.

As a religious group, the Communion of Gurhal is responsible for Gurhal doctrine and organizing religious festivals and ceremonies. In addition, it governs the theocracy of Neudaiz.

Within the Communion, the four members known as the Lords of the Planetary Spirit are each responsible for certain policy areas - religious affairs, governmental affairs, literary affairs, and defense. These four people are in turn led by the Head of the Planetary Spirit.

Furthermore, the Communion calls Photon the Planetary Spirit, and honors this planetary spirit daily, basing their doctrine on their gratitude for its existence. The main adherents to the Communion are the Newmans living on Neudaiz, but there are numerous Human and Beast believers all across the solar system.

In the satellite belt of the planet Moatoob (the asteroids surrounding the planet), there are many areas that are dangerous for ships and the judicial authorities can be loose at times. As a result, there are many Rogues who have made this asteroid belt their base of operations. Their activities include piracy, smuggling, and the operation of casinos.

Among the Rogues, there are several large powers known as 'Families'. As such, there are always quarrels over power.
The main character in PSU's Story Mode. A seventeen year old living in the Guardians' Colony. His sister, Lumia, was dragged into the SEED invasion as they watched the ceremony of the 100th anniversary of the Alliance between the three planets. This was the first time that the SEED had been active, and eventually he became a cadet at the Guardians, an interplanetary bodyguard organization. Her mother was murdered by primitive creatures when she was a child and as a result she cannot use any Techniques, despite being a Newman. Because of this, she is more cautious than is needed. She develops the various pieces of equipment that the Guardians use, as a researcher at the Guardians Equipment Development Division. She is on good terms with Karen, and her mother had adopted Karen, after she was found in the woods. Despite her voluptuous appearance she is not very spontaneous, and sometimes the equipment she offers is defective. She is a fan of Photon-based products, and sees them as being supreme things. She is currently attempting to create a ration that would last over 100 years. All attempts have failed, ending with the ration tasting horribly. She usually uses her charm to get into places you wouldn't normally have acess, clinging onto the unsuspecting males arm, and pouring on the compliments. ==Description==
Adahna Degahna is a massive piloted robot. It can cast a shield making it temporarily immune to all attacks, it has a sweeping laser attack that causes massive damage, and a photon whip. It can also teleport around the arena.

Interesting fact: In the story mode, this boss is piloted by one of the main story characters.

Weakpoint Info
*Excellent Damage: Arms
*Good Damage: Body

*Hax!: The backside of the Adahna Degahna is shaped like an upside down U. (Or a capital H, or a lowercase n.) If a character wedges in between the robot's jutting shoulder plates and the Degahna targets him, it'll spin around to acquire it's target - but the shoulder plates will continue to push the character around in circles, and it'll just keep spinning around while characters with ranged weapons can plink away.
