Listed below are the changes in detail.

System changes
Lobby warping
Players will be able to move to lobbies for which they don't have permission for a fee, by talking to the lobby attendant NPC. The NPC now gives three options: travel via the old method (i.e. where a party member is), travel with meseta, and an explanation of the service, as well as the cancel option.

The player must have visited the lobby beforehand to be able to travel there. Notably, the lobby must be visited after the update or it will not be available to travel to.

Battle type changes
Battle type equipment and PA levels will be changed to their new Ambition of the Illuminus versions. In general, this means classes get more weapons, at higher ranks, and higher level Photon Arts.

Characters playing regular PSU cannot use Shadoogs, Madoogs, Photon Whips and Slicers even if their type can. See here for more information on the new weapons and Photon art limits.

Players of regular PSU get the level 40 Photon Arts, just like players of Ambition of the Illuminus do.

The Level Cap will be raised to 110 at launch.

Protransers and traps
Protransers now have the ability to see traps without the use of goggles. However they will still need to use goggles to be able to destroy traps.

My Room, synthesis and grinding changes
Synthesis rate changes
Synthesis success rates have been increased. Items requiring special materials will receive the biggest increase, but other items will see an increase too.

Bil De Axe || ? || ? || 52% || 91%

Note: A glitch on the servers meant that boards already inserted into PMs did not have the correct success rates after the update. Some of these values may be inaccurate.

In addition, elemental attribute rates when synthing melee weapons and armours have also been increased. Japanese sources state that in 10 trial synths of a Saber, 8 were between 18% and 28%, and the other two were 38% and 42%.

Synthesis failure items
Items received upon failing a synthesis will be changed. Players may receive materials, even materials not used in the synthesis, back. For example, failing a Saber may return Par Ash, or even Zepotite or Giganite.

Failing high grade items appears to give even more unusual items. For example, failing a Halarod may give you an Okiku Doll room decoration.

Grinding system change
The grinding system is being changed. Upon failing a grind attempt, the weapon will not be destroyed, but instead reset to an ungrinded state (0), and its grind limit will drop by 1. This is represented by two numbers: current grind/grind limit e.g. failing a 5/10 weapon will result in it becoming a 0/9. If a weapon reaches 0/0, it will become ungrindable.

Item distribution change
The default item distribution method is now set to random instead of give finder.

Battle changes
Just Attack
This is a new battle system that will allow you to score critical hits through carefully timed attacks. It is only possible with melee weapons. In order to execute a Just Attack, you must first use a normal attack, and at the end of a normal attack's animation use another normal attack or Photon Art. If executed correctly, the circle that appears in the lower-right of the screen when you press a button will be doubled in size and you will score a critical hit. PP recovery also works for normal attacks.

Note that the current edition of PSU will not have a special effect for Just Attack, and Just Attack is not possible after the 3rd hit of a normal knuckle combo (this will be fixed in Ambition of the Illuminus).
Just Counter
This will allow players to immediately counterattack during the block animation, and it works for skills, bullets and TECHNICs. Melee weapons will retalitate with a critical hit, others won't.

The current edition of PSU will not have a special effect for Just Counter.

Melee PP recovery
Normal melee attacks will recover the PP of the weapon used, critical hits recover yet more.

Elemental formula changes
Although elements will no longer be as powerful on their own, adjustments to character stats mean that 50% weapons will perform almost the same after this change. On the whole characters will be offensively more powerful on their own, and lower % weapons and elementally neutral weapons will perform better than before.

Character status adjustment
Character stats are being adjusted. As well as offensive stats, defensive stats are being adjusted so that characters do not become too weak as a result of the elemental attribute changes.

Known changes: all types appear to have boosted ATP, DFP, TP and MST. Some types have other boosted stats as well. Exact stat modifiers and base stat changes are not known yet.

SUV and Nanoblast changes
Positive status (i.e. buffs) will no longer be removed when using SUV weapons or Nanoblasts.

Weapon and line shield drop changes
Completed weapons and line shields will drop with random elements and element %, between 7% and 21%.

Meseta drop changes
The amount of Meseta that drops will increase with bigger parties.

In addition, Meseta distribution will be changed. Under the random or set order distribution systems, Meseta will be equally divided among all party members. Under give finder, whoever picks it up will get it all, as before.

Photon Art rebalance
Photon Arts are being rebalanced (and mostly boosted). Known changes are listed below. All figures are for the Photon Art at level 30 unless stated otherwise.
Monster stat changes
The STA of large monsters will be rebalanced. Large monsters will have their STA lowered so they can be inflicted more easily with status effect. Level 2 status will be effective against many of them.

In addition, EXP given by monsters will be rebalanced. Monsters will give much more EXP than before, particularly at lower levels. It will be easier to reach Level 100 than before. The following table shows the expected EXP values from a monster that has an 100% EXP modifier (such as Delsaban). Values for new EXP and the % change are approximates.

The <b>GUARDIANS Colony</b> is owned and controlled by the GUARDIANS organization. The GUARDIANS Colony had modest beginnings as a small colony purchased as the home base for the organization. As the GUARDIANS grew larger, the colony was further developed into the huge residential colony it is today, with over a million permanent residents. The GUARDIANS travel all across the Gurhal System for missions, using a transportation system called "Vector Tracks" to reach each of the three planets. The Vector Tracks can be easily recognized due to their rows of ring-shaped control units.

The GUARDIANS Colony acts as the central station of Phantasy Star Universe. It is the location of My Room, the instanced room that each player owns. It is the starting point for new characters and contains several missions designed to familiarize a player to the game basics. It is also currently has the largest city out of the planets with certain shops that are unavailable in the other planets.

Clyez City
Clyez City can be found at the center of the GUARDIANS Colony and is where the GUARDIANS Headquarters are located. There are multiple cities in the GUARDIANS Colony that are very similar in design to Clyez City. Clyez City is broken up into five floors with a distinct function.

The first floor serves as a basic lobby for players to meet up, start parties, or chat. It is also where you will spawn if you decline continuing from an outpost or city area on log in. From here, you can access your room.

The second floor is a shopping mall that is used primarily for battle readiness - there is a weapons shop, armor shop, item shop, synthesis shop, and a grinding area for Kubara weaponry. The equipment in these shops tend to be low grade - if you want to find better equipment, you may have better luck at a manufacturer's shop at their home planet. However, Clyez City does hold a great variety of lower level equipment. There is also a room decorations shop located on this floor.

The third floor is another shopping mall, but it is primarily for aesthetics, including a clothing shop, parts shop, and makeover shop. You can change the general look of your character in these shops for a price. There is also a cafe located on this floor, but there is no specific use for it. It may be used for special events. One more possible shop is available on this floor, but for now it has no purpose (it currently says that a "Tenant (is) wanted").

The fourth floor is the PPT Spaceport, where you can transport to the other planets using vector tracks. It also has the Linear Line mission counter. There is also a "Space Dock" which transports Guardians to Infected SEED satellites.

The fifth and final floor is the GUARDIANS headquarters, where you can change your type for a fee or participate in special story missions.

Linear Line
The Linear Line is an anti-grav transportation system that traverses the inside of the GUARDIANS Colony. It is also used on other colonies and on extremely large ships. Parts of the Linear are shut down due to SEED. Walking along the access corridors is the only way to get to some parts of the colony. Using the Linear Line, you can head to the Transfer Terminal. From the Transfer Terminal, you can go to the Aurorey Viewing Plaza.

Available Missions
* SEED-Form Purge (ＳＥＥＤフォーム掃討): My Room (tutorial mission)
* Unsafe Passage (連絡通路突破): Clyez City to Linear Line: Transfer Terminal
* Fight For Food (ファームプラント奪還): Linear Line: Transfer Terminal to Aurorey Viewing Plaza
* In this awaited update, Phantasy Star Universe has gained new clothing options for all characters and three new S2 difficulty missions on Moatoob. The Easter event has given way to some form of "Cherry Blossom" festival. - Miraglyth 15:00, 15 April 2007 (BST)

03/23/2007: New Party Missions!
* The update today just gives us two new party missions from C to S2 difficulty (though it's worth noting that the older two party missions have not had S2 difficulty added), along with a change in event from White Day to Easter. Which is unfortunately going to have to tide us over for another three weeks... - Miraglyth 09:32, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

03/09/2007: Lv.80 Cap and More!
* Today the level cap for Phantasy Star Universe has been raised to 80. This has been considered long-overdue by many players as the Lv.70 cap had been in place for just under two months. We've also got some other stuff including a new story mission, S2 free missions and new PM evolution devices! Check out the updates page to get the specifics. - Miraglyth 09:26, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

03/02/2007: Long-Awaited Update
* It's been a long three weeks, hasn't it? Finally Phantasy Star Universe receives some new content, including the awaited "Ultimate" Photon Arts, the second HIVE mission and two new co-operative missions. In addition, the "shift-cancelling" trick with TECHNICs has been removed just in time to prevent Nos-series TECHs being abused. - Miraglyth 10:46, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

02/25/2007: Illegal Item Deletion
* This update's a little late appearing, but in the usual maintenance period, additional measures were implemented to prevent the use of illegal equipment in Network Mode. The extent of what players have been told is that all items marked as "unobtainable" will be deleted by the game instantly and/or when removed from shops. However some known unattainable items (particularly room goods and grinded A-Rank or S-Rank weapons) have apparently slipped through these measures. - Miraglyth 13:20, 25 February 2007 (CST)

02/16/2007: No More V-Day!
* Just a quick note to say that during a ten-minute maintenance that occured during the "grave shift", the Valentine's Event has been brought to a close. For the first time since the game's second update on the 7th of December, there are no themed lobbies active. - Miraglyth 06:03, 16 February 2007 (CST)

02/09/2007: Update 010: 'Technical Difficulties'
* The February 8th-9th update has been a string of disappointments. As the game was brought down for maintenance, forum admin (Sega employee) Superfuzz posted update details that informed players that the next update wouldn't be until March 2nd. Following that, on the update's completion (the maintenance only lasting about 150 minutes), players learned that the "Ultimate PAs" - the focus of the update - were not added at all. Shortly following, Superfuzz confirmed this citing "technical difficulties" as the reasoning, and stating that they would not be added until "the next update" - which as previously mentinoed is going to take three times longer than usual updates. - Miraglyth 04:52, 9 February 2007 (CST)

02/02/2007: Update 009
* The February 1st-2nd update is here! After what many users complained was "too long with the Winter lobbies", we've now got new/brilliant/sickening (depending on how cynical you are) lobbies. There are also three entirely new missions - one per planet - and a bunch of nice tweaks - some long-awaited - to the game. - Miraglyth 05:10, 2 February 2007 (CST)

01/26/2007: Game Update
* The January 25th-26th update has arrived. For the first time since the 7th of December (6/7 updates ago) we've got all-new missions! One each for Parum, Moatoob and the GUARDIANS Colony. We've also got a new Story Mission. - Miraglyth 05:10, 26 January 2007 (CST)

01/19/2007: Update 007
* The January 18th-19th update has come, only instead of getting the four promised S-Rank mission variants, we got five! We've now got S-Ranks for every mission in the game save the Bruce's Dungeon party mission. In addition, the "swimsuit glitch" (article no doubt pending) and synthesis disconnect/cancel trick to save the board, have both been fixed and are now impossible. - Miraglyth 04:44, 19 January 2007 (CST)

01/15/2007: Updated
* Happy New Year! The update has come, and it appears to be what I researched! Yay! - Kyodai Inkei 16:25, 15 January 2007 (CST)
** The bathing suits are available from the Kubara shop - Clyez City Level 3; Shopping Mall B. - Yamishi

12/31/2006: Update Coming Mid-January
* Happy New Year! With the new year comes good news. On January Twelfth, 2007, the greedy, lethargic, and possibly apathetic workers of SEGA and Sonic Team will give all US/EU servers a much needed content update. In this update, a completely new mission will become available on Moatoob; this is rumored to be "Bruce's Dungeon." The third online story mission will also be made available. In the way of combat, new Photon Arts will be released, and the level cap will be increased to 70. On an individual level, new room decorations will be added, but, most importantly, new clothing and parts will be a welcomed addition. Personally, I cannot wait for the swimsuits. Hurray for close-to-full nudity! - Kyodai Inkei 08:34, 31 December 2006 (CST)

12/26/2006: Christmas Is Over
* The Christmas theme has been removed from all lobbies on all PSU servers. All Christms-themed items are no longer available in NPC stores. - Kyodai Inkei 18:00, 26 December 2006 (PST)

12/22/2006: Another Update
* Nothing big, but a new mission, "Episode 2 Chapter 2: Desert's End", has been added. S-rank missions have also been added. What will be the fate of our beloved ex-Guardian Ethan? - Kyodai Inkei 4:09, 22 December 2006 (PST)

12/16/2006: Third Update
* Again a little late, but Sega has made good on their promise of weekly content updates (so far). This past Friday, the English Phantasy Star Universe servers were updated with five new S-Rank missions. The missions are: Mad Creatures, Mizuraki Defense, Demons Above, Valley of Carnage, and Mine Defense. The official website promises here that next week will bring a new story mission, along with even more S-Rank missions. - Segaholic2 13:29, 16 December 2006 (PST)

12/09/2006: Second Update!
* (A little late, but...) Starting a series of what is promised to be weekly updates in the forseeable future, the English Phantasy Star Universe servers have been updated with a plethora of content. Most importantly the raise in level cap from 50 to 60 and the addition of Expert Types, the addition of A and S-ranked weapons and armor, our first Story Mission and our first two S-Rank Missions, the update also introduces to us our first event, in the form of Christmas. For further information on the update's details check the Updates page. - Miraglyth 14:21, 9 December 2006 (PST)
