Karen Erra is the 4th main character you meet, and also one of the most prominent in the story.

Karen Erra was a orphan from a young age, suffering due to her mother being [[Image:Karen.png|right|thumb|Karen aboard the [[Landeel]] ]]killed by a Tengohg, a resident gargoyle-esque creature native to Neudaiz (This is not revealed until Chapter 5). This has made her seem quite stern at times. She's dedicated to what she does, and is seen through most of the game supporting Ethan up to the final Magashi fight. She's first seen in Episode 2 where she comes and tells Ethan how to make and dissolve a party, and then sets off to help out the local farm, [[Green Green Farm]], in which the animals have become unruly due to SEED influence. She's a general support character until Chapter 5, where she collapses twice at the sight of a Tengohg (it is here that the player finds out how her mother died); her role then elevates slightly.

She then leaves for a while, and is thought to be seen in Chapter 7; however, this is [[Mirei]]. The two share a special bond which makes them share eachother's pain (Karen doesn't know this, though - she forgot who exactly she was, due to the trauma at an early age). She's then seen at the centre of the temple ontop of a pink rune floating slightly off the ground in stasis, while being watched by Dohgi. He, apparently, wanted to finish what he started earlier (He attempted to kill Karen while she was young to be able to pass all her powers to Mirei; this lead to her mother running away with her and the events that followed). Mirei "takes the hit" for Karen, as Dohgi lashes out at her and hits her with a fatal blast of energy as she attempts to stop him from killing her. Ethan then fights Dohgi. After the fight, Karen wakes up from the stasis above the rune and speaks to Mirei before she dies. As Mirei is gone, and was the only hope for the people of Neudaiz (and Gurhal itself), she takes her place, and is able to imitate Mirei in all but eye color (Mirei has purple eyes; Karen's are blue). Later, in Chapter 10 (Still being referred to as Mirei or "Miko-sama" - Divine Maiden in the localization) she goes to a Temple in the forests of Neudaiz with Ethan, Lou and Dr. Kanal Tomrain to perform a divination necesarry to find the Confinement system on Neudaiz. Before this, she and Ethan have a conversation; as they started laughing, a creature burst out of the soil, Forcing the two to attack. After, Karen and Kanal start the divination ritual; She changes into Mirei's Ceremonial Robes and starts harnessing the power given to her when the original Mirei died. During this, SEED attack the local area; Ethan and [[Lou]] go off to cut the threat, while Karen continues. After this, they come back, and the ritual itself is a success; Karen then collapses (and is thought to be dead by Ethan), and is taken away by [[Izuma Rutsu]] and Communion of Gurhal operatives.

She reappears in Chapter 12, disguised as a COG armed servant on board Tylor's ship. Ethan goes up and thanks her (not knowing that it's her), at which point she reveals herself, and is thanked by Ethan for coming (earlier in the chapter he seems rather depressed as Izuma said he couldn't see her, or come). Upon entering the SEED Hive, Karen and Ethan split off from Leo's group and explore the hive alone. They both later find Hyuga Ryght and Maya Shidou in a state of suspended animation in a SEED pod, and release them. The four exchange greetings and continue going deeper into the until they find Kou Taragi, also in suspended animation. However, when he is released, he's been exposed to far too much SEED inside the pod (He was in there since chapter 8, whereas Maya and Hyuga had only been in there for a short time) and mutates, resulting in a fight between him and the group erupting. After, he is returned to normal, but in a critical state; he dies while talking to Maya, who immediately breaks into hysterics due to the loss of a good friend. Hyuga takes Maya back to the Landeel, and Ethan and Karen continue to press on. Karen gets trapped just before reaching the core in a door trap, unable to help Ethan with the upcoming fight; Ethan heads off alone. She is released, however, when Magashi "dies", and comes to congratulate Ethan on what seems like a victory. Unfortunately, it isn't, but she, Leo and Tonnio fight the SEED core version of Magashi (Dulk Falkis) along with Ethan. Upon victory, they run back to the Landeel. After, all the living story characters are seen onboard the Landeel during celebration, except Karen, who's on the observation deck. Ethan goes to find her, and they talk; She then hugs Ethan tearily for saying that he'll protect the world because she's in it, and the credits roll.

== Random facts ==
*Ethan and Karen talk after the credits about network mode (Quote: "Go play network mode and make a character!" - Karen "Hey, I thought I was the main character?" - Ethan)
*Karen has a few random voice shots after chapter ending sequences if you do the chapter in question twice (on a different save each time). In one such case, She asks Ethan if he finds her attractive.
*Karen is voiced by Rie Tanaka, a famous female voice actor with a very large fanbase (extending to outside Japan). Tanaka herself apparently plays the online mode (she says this in her blog on [http://tanaka-rie.com]), though it's unknown what character she is.
*Karen is highly afraid of Tengohgs, as they are the cause of her mother's death; she faints half of the time whenever one appears, and entirely blacks out when Ohma Gohg attacks the party.
*"Karen" in Chapter 7 is Mirei disguised as her (which a few people never actually realised), where it's commonly believed she isn't.

*Irovax: Why is the best thing to feed a Striking PM 1* Weapons? Wouldn't it be Monomates, since weapons cost 350 and Monomates cost 50? Or are they taking the TECHNIC into account? Personally, I'd want my PM to become battle ready as soon as possible...
* Yeah, that's for pure Striking. If all you care about is getting it to L80 ASAP, you're probably best off buying Monomates en masse. * About #2, I'm not too sure, but it seems that even with pure 100 striking, the GH410 takes only average damage. It's probably dependent only on class/type of PM.

I should still check up on the Japanese description of 450 though; forgot if it mentioned her fire specialism, and thought it might be useful to include element info. I'm pretty sure the first part, about combat stats is a given, but then the second fact, about B St affecting overall synthesis proficiency, is this really proven? Almost seems like its a recent addition, especially how its inserted into the existing context about your PM fighting with you

== How Feeding Works ==

I believe the feeding details could use elaboration. From my experience and from what just about everyone I'm asking is saying, feeding works thus:

* Feed a PM one item, it's "Fed" count raises by 1.
* If "Fed" count is 100, disable feeding.
* If not fed for 12 hours, set "Fed" count to 0.

This differs from the details currently on the page as they suggest the 12-hour reset only happens if and when the PM becomes full (suggesting that if fed one item every 24 hours, it would be "full" for 12 hours on the 100th day).

''Partner Machineries'' (パートナーマシナリー), or ''PMs'' (パシリ) for short, are floating pet robots, and can be found in the [[My Room|player's room]]. In [[Story Mode]], Ethan's PM is called 'Pete', but in [[Extra Mode]] and [[Network Mode]] players are able to choose and change their PM's names. A PM's [[Luck]] is equal to that of Female Cast characters.

PMs have several functions, including:
* Item Storage (~300 items)
* [[Item Synthesis]]
* Engaging in combat as a sidekick (fourth-stage only)
* Providing plot information and hints (Story Mode)
* Shopkeeper (Online)

PMs have specific attributes, as well:
* Striking - indicates the profiency in synthesizing [[Melee Weapons]]
* Ranged - indicates the profiency in synthesizing [[Ranged Weapons]]
* Technic - indicates the profiency in synthesizing [[Casting Weapons]]
* Armor - indicates the profiency in synthesizing [[Armors]]
* Production Level (max. 100) - the sum of the four attributes above; PM evolution occurs as the Production Level rises
* Battle Stat (B St.) or Combat Level (max. 100) - dictates a PM's efficiency in combat (presumably only AI and chat lines?) and is rumored to increase overall synthesis proficiency; the increments for its EXP bar increase upon Mission completion, depending ''only'' on the overall resultant rank.

* S rank: about 25% (from 0% into a level, four S Ranks are not enough for one level. It's probably 24%.)
* A rank: about 15%
* B rank: about 10%
* C rank: about 5%

To increase those first four attributes, PMs can be fed items, via the "Give item" submenu of Partner Machinery Functions. PM Feeding (called that due to the PM commenting how the item tasted) is subject to some simple constraints:

* If you feed a PM one item, it's "fed" count raises by 1.
* Once a PM's "fed" count reaches 100 it becomes "full" and you cannot feed it any more.
* If a PM has not been fed for 12 hours ("full" or not), it's "fed" count gets reset to 0.

Partner Machinery will refuse to eat [[Synthesis Boards]], [[Grinders]] and [[Presents]]. When the Production Level reaches a designated point, the PM will "evolve" into a new form that varies according to the individual attributes that contribute to the Production Level. These distinct PM evolutions each specialize either in Striking, Range or Technic; there are none that specialize in Armor. Battle-usable evolutions have associated combat behaviour and equipment. Not much is known about their combat stats, other than that they are dependent on the PM's form and Combat Level.

Only the leader of a party may summon his or her battle-usable PM to combat. The PM is capable of taking damage and dying like any ordinary player as well as reducing final trial rewards through death. PMs affect experience gain in combat in the same way ordinary players do. The PM has no means of healing itself outside of Force spells, area affect items and returning to town. Battle-usable PM's have the luck score of a female cast.

The item ''PM Device ZERO'' is used to reset each of the PM's stats to zero. Although the PM will reset it's level and any advanced form will be lost, the storage remains unaffected.

== Fourth-Stage PMs ==

When PMs evolve to their fourth stage, they will become usable in battle and will grant their owner their own [[Partner Card]] to call upon them at anytime. In any party only the PM of the leader may participate. Like NPCs, PMs will automatically revive in a minute, but unfortunately their deaths affects Mission results nonetheless. In battle, a PM is always ten levels higher than their owner's this increases, they will become more powerful like regular characters would. A PM's Production Level and Striking, Ranged, Armor and Technic stats do not have any influence on this.

== Currently Unobtainable PMs ==

There are currently 28 unattainable PM evolutions, linked to 'PM Evolution Devices'. For example, using a 'PM 411 Device' on a GH410 will evolve the PM into the corresponding evolution. It is unclear whether one would need multiple devices to obtain, say, a GH412. Details about GH305~7 and GH461~5 are still unclear.

The Japan Version of the game finally got the Partner Machine Evolution Kits! But only for the 4x1(411,421,431,441,451) and 4x2(412,422,432,442,452) types,unfortuantely. No information on the 46x types,yet.

The New PM change in appearance and weapon, some featuring S rank weapons as well!Great for those with an acquired taste for expensive items,others will just get plain jealous.

Some of the alternate PM actually carry SUV weapons!! Each one features an extra slot but only certain few will get the SUV while some for example, will get HP regeneration(Me/Hp Restore).We have yet to cover on this so come back often for more details.
