"Event" is the generalized name given to a period of time in which at least one limited-availability event occurs. Events can typically be split into two categories:

* "Seasonal" events, such as Christmas or Halloween. These events are predictable in nature and have prepared festivities such as town decorations and/or themed monsters.
* "Promotional" events. These are non-seasonal, often one-off, events or promotions. An example of this would be if Sega were to give a free room decoration to everyone who logged in on a given day. These events were observed in Blue Burst, with the "Maximum Attack" events.

Seasonal Events
As the game is still new, it is hardly surprising that the game has yet to experience any seasonal events. Here is a list of what players can expect and when:

Halloween
The Halloween event is largely known as it has occured on the JP Phantasy Star Universe from October 20th and is planned to last until November 9th.

Known festivities include:

* Modification of lobbies to include special Halloween decorations and music.
** A video of these has been made and posted on YouTube.
* Rare Rappy Lantern enemies that drop a Halloween-themed Rod called Pumpkin Head.
* A complete room theme for 5000 meseta.

This event was not run in 2006 for the English servers. The first and only maintenance before Halloween itself passed and the event was not added. Some users believe that it did not occur for various reasons:

# Unfairness to non-American regions, as the event would be exclusively available to North America and importers.
# The game was set up and released too soon before Halloween for there to be time to set it up.
# Sega America are likely more interested in game and network stability among other issues than running a non-essential event.

The Halloween lobby theme is included on the For Brighter Day soundtrack, on Disc 2 (the "Neudaiz Side").

Christmas
The game holds the capability for a Christmas event as this is arguably the biggest expected seasonal event. This event was celebrated in almost all incarnations of Phantasy Star Online. Finally, the Phantasy Star Universe soundtrack For Brighter Day has a Christmas theme suitable for lobby use. This theme is found on Disc 3 (the "Moatoob Side").

It is expected that this event is to be the first seasonal event, if not the first event entirely, for the English servers of Phantasy Star Universe, pioneering around December 2006.

New Year
As with Christmas, this is an event many people implicitly believe will be presented in Phantasy Star Universe. Also celebrated in most versions of Phantasy Star Online, and For Brighter Day contains a lobby-suitable theme named after the likely event on Disc 1 (the "Parum Side").

As this is merely a celebration and contains no notable festivities or characters such as Santa Claus or the Jack-o-Lantern, this event - not surprisingly expected around New Year - is one of the least likely to have any active participation or subsequent rewards.

Valentine's Day
Another much-expected event to occur first during February 2007. This was also included throughout the Episodes of Phantasy Star Online, and For Brighter Day contains a lobby-suitable theme named after the likely event on Disc 2 ("Neudaiz Side").

Others
The above are just the most obvious seasonal events. There are sure to be other, less predictable events. The soundtrack contains a few tracks which could be used for (and thus hint at) other events, including Carnival (Disc 1), Marriage (Disc 2), Cherry Blossom and Comedy (both Disc 3).

Promotional Events
As of the earliest stages in the lifetime in English Phantasy Star Universe, there have yet to be any promotional events. There has been one noteworthy event on the Japanese servers, however:

Sonic (JP Servers)
The Japanese servers have had one such event thusfar, and that was to award a free Sonic decoration to the shared bank of all players who registered their SegaLink accounts before July 31st, 2006 (one month before the game's release).

<font color="red">Red: Online specific information.</font><br /><font color="blue">Blue: Offline specific information.</font>

Partner Machineries (パートナーマシナリー), or PMs (パシリ) for short, are floating pet robots, and can be found in the player's room. In Story Mode, Ethan's PM is called 'Pete', but in Extra Mode and Network Mode players are able to choose and change their PM's names.

PMs have several functions, including:
* Item Storage (~300 items)
* Item Synthesis
* Engaging in combat as a sidekick (fourth-stage only)
* Providing plot information and hints (Story Mode)

PMs have specific attributes, as well:
* Striking - indicates the profiency in synthesizing Melee Weapons
* Ranged - indicates the profiency in synthesizing Ranged Weapons
* Technic - indicates the profiency in synthesizing Casting Weapons
* Armor - indicates the profiency in synthesizing Armors
* Production Level (max. 100) - the sum of the four attributes above; PM evolution occurs as the Production Level rises
* Combat Level (max. 100) - dictates a PM's stats in combat and increases overall synthesis proficiency; increases as the PM participates in combat

To increase those first four attributes, PMs can be given 100 items before becoming "full", but they refuse to eat Synthesis Boards, Grinders and Presents. Once full, they will not accept items for 12 hours. When the Production Level reaches a designated point, the PM will "evolve" into a new form that varies according to the individual attributes that contribute to the Production Level. These distinct PM evolutions each specialize either in Striking, Range or Technic; there are none that specialize in Armor. Battle-usable evolutions have associated combat behaviour and equipment. Not much is known about their combat stats, other than that they are dependent on the PM's form and Combat Level.

Only the leader of a party may summon his or her battle-usable PM to combat. The PM is capable of taking damage and dying like any ordinary player as well as reducing final trial rewards through death. PMs affect experience gain in combat in the same way ordinary players do. The PM has no means of healing itself outside of Force spells, area affect items and returning to town. Battle-usable PM's have the luck score of a female cast. Additional combat PM forms with varying sex or race assocations may become available, but this is unlikely.

The item PM Device ZERO is used to reset each of the PM's stats to zero. Although the PM will reset it's level and any advanced form will be lost, the storage remains unaffected.

* Item Storage (~300 items)
* Item Synthesis

To increase those first four attributes, PMs can be given 100 items before becoming "full", but they refuse to eat Synthesis Boards, Grinders or Presents.

Item Synthesis uses the Partner Machinery to create items (such as Weapons, Armors and consumables) from base materials bought from Synthesis Shops or found during Missions. Item Synthesis is affected by success rates; the success rate of synthesizing a particular item depends on the item's type and the levels of the Partner Machinery.

Synthesis Boards are placed into the Partner Machinery from the inventory and materials are gathered from storage to synthesize the items.

Consumable items have a 100% synthesis success rate and synthesize immediately. Other items have synthesis success rates that vary with the Partner Machinery's Production Level in a corresponding attribute and require time to synthesize, after which they can be retrieved from the Partner Machinery.

Process
{| class="wikitable" style="text-align:center"
|- style="background:#cccccc"
! #
! colspan=2 | Process
|- style="background:#dddddd"
| rowspan=1 | 1
| align=center | After inserting your Partner Machinery with the proper Synthesis Board (Done through the Synthesis menu), put into your Partner Machinery's storage the proper materials the recipe calls for. Note the large red Xs listed, those are telling you you don't have the proper materials in the Partner Machinery storage (you just can't have the items on you).
|- style="background:#cccccc"
|- style="background:#dddddd"
| rowspan=1 | 2
| align=center | Verify with your PM that the Ingredients necessary are there. Note the success rate for your item as well as the number of uses left that Recipe can generate at the bottom.
|- style="background:#cccccc"
|- style="background:#dddddd"
| rowspan=1 | 3
| align=center | Wait the specified amount of time; usually 90 minutes. The stronger the item, the more time it takes. If it's an armor, it takes even more time. If its got a success rate of 100% (usable items and most forms of refining), it will be instant. Note that you can cancel it and get back your materials should you have to, however, if a considerable amount of time has passed, you may not be able to get back the materials used. You can check on the status of your weapons, and how much resource has been used, anything unused will be returned to you, anything used has a success rate of retrieval. The synthesis process might take several hours.
|- style="background:#cccccc"
|- style="background:#dddddd"
| rowspan=1 | 4
| align=center | Finalize synthesis, and pick up your items. At this point, you can still cancel synthesis and make an attempt at getting your resources back. Picking up only applies to armors, weapons, and high level refining. This is essentially the moment of truth, time to see if your PM successfully created/refined the item or not. If you fail, you'll end up with a useless item, such as a Monomate.
Notes
For Step #2, keep in mind each type of item built will follow a standard formula that never changes: General items that are catalysts (not usable, like grinders, or resource refining with the exception of high level ore refining) consist of one item, which is usually the material itself, and labeled as such (things such as "Grinder C Parts"). Recovery Items and high level ore refining consist of two types of ingredients, chemicals and natural materials, and acids for usable items; lower level ore and basic photons; use more expensive photon for high level refining. Armors require three kinds of resources: photons, ores, and materials (such as nanocarbon, or orta-resin). Finally, weapons require the most of anything, filling all four resource slots, consisting of ores, photons, metals and wood.

* NOTE: If you evolve your Partner Machine, the synthesis success rates will go up. Sometimes success rates can go up to 10% with one evolution.
