=== Story ===

A powerful figure, admired by other rogues. He doesn't advocate killing needlessly, nor stealing from the poor. He believes in honor and will not betray those close to him. By his tendency to avoid bloodshed, it is clear he doesn't care for violence. However, he will not hesitate in resorting to it when necessary. He is captain of the pirate ship Landeel.

=== Episode 1 ===

Tylor is first seen hijacking a cargo train. While not quite the way you'd expect a highly influential, honourable figurehead to act, later proves himself as a righteous figure, and one of the most useful people Ethan meets. He's first seen in chapter 4, with the [[Vol Brothers]], hijacking a cargo train. His aide, Liina, first makes an appearance launching a gas canister into the compartment where Karen is keeping the Vol brothers in and rescuing them. Ethan meets Tylor on the way to rescue Karen. The rogue makes short work of Ethan but does not kill him, as he doesn't consider him evil.

His next appearance is in chapter 8- he is seen negotiating with Magashi for Ethan and Tonnio (held hostage in the rogue hideout). He leaves the room, apparently coming to an agreement with Magashi. Liina sneaks in and releases the captives, and shows them the way out. When they reach the port where the Landeel is docked they see that Tylor and Magashi are duelling. Ethan joins the fray, and helps Tylor (much to his relief). Magashi then activates his [[Grinna Bete S]]s, and sets them on Tylor and Ethan. The two are then joined by Leo and Hyuga, and together they make short work of the monsters.

Tylor's next appearance is in chapter 10, when his ship [[Landeel]] bursts out of the desert sand to fight [[Endrum Collective]]'s Air Forces. During the battle, Ethans party's G-Flyer is shot down. The Landeel itself is also shot down and crashes. Liina is seperated from the rogues and then found by Ethan, Lou, Tonnio and Leo under the rubble of part of the ship. Magashi then appears in a Seed-Enhanced robot suit. Tylor, assisted by Ethan, makes and effort to take him down.

Later seen in chapter 12, Tylor offers Ethan and Co a ride to the [[HIVE]]. He does not play a major role within the HIVE itself. While the other group goes ahead, he and Liina stay behind to guard the ship. After Magashi's defeat, he takes the group out of the hive before the AMF open fire on it.

A Guardian since the organization was first established, he's the oldest member of the GUARDIANS and headmaster of the GUARDIANS Training School. Many Guardians trained directly under him, including the current president, and he has a faithful memory of each student, particularly their weak spots. He is held in great esteem. His strength is still plentiful, although his body has succumbed to a common CAST ailment.

Lucaim is minor compared to most characters, only appearing once or twice; Mainly in mission briefings. He does, however, play a large part in chapter 4, helping the party through the train mission. His most notable appearance was during the Train mission where he effortlessly took on the Vol brothers alone, and left them all in a heap. During episode 4, (About half-way through), he collapses, forcing Hyuga to stay behind and Ethan to go on ahead. He's later seen on the G-flyer laughing about it - however he actually suffers from ICS (Instant Crash Syndrome), a "disease" that affects CASTs close to 200 years old. Afterwards, he spars with Ethan (and comes out victorious).

Goes by "Leo." He encountered Ethan during the initial SEED invasion, and after fighting alongside him recommended that Ethan join the GUARDIANS. Since then, they've formed a brotherly bond. Despite his rough facade, Leo has a big heart and cares a great deal about his family and friends. He has a wife and a three-year-old son on the GUARDIANS Colony.

Leo is first seen in chapter 1, herding everyone out of the damaged parts of the colony. He meets Ethan. He gets paralyzed by the SEED-Vance and rendered unable to move. After Ethan kills the monster with Leo's handgun, he gives him weapons, advice and directions so that Ethan can rescue his sister. He later appears with a pair of Guardians that help free Lumia. Ethan meets Leo again in episode 6, together they set off to Moatoob to chase the [[Vol Brothers]]. Leo is often seen holding the ever aggressive Tonnio back, who goes so far as to strangle the defeated Vol brothers. Leo is next seen in chapter 8, helping Ethan and Tylor during the Grina Bete fight. Seen again in Chapter 11 helping Ethan and Co escort Dr. Tomrain to the confinement system on Moatoob. Leo is seen again in Chapter 12, leading Tonnio and Lou into the other route of the HIVE to find the missing researchers. He calls Ethan when his group is trapped in a dead end hallway. He's next seen aiding Ethan on the final Dulk Falkis fight. As with the rest of the characters involved, he's at the Landeel after party.

After three years of experience with the GUARDIANS, Karen was assigned as [[Ethan Waber|Ethan]]'s instructor. As a girl, her mother was killed by native creatures, and although she is a newman, she is unable to use TECHNICs for some reason. To compensate for this deficiency, Karen pushes herself to do her best, sometimes overly hard.

=== Episode 1 ===

Karen Erra was an orphan from a young age, suffering due to her mother being killed by a Tengohg, a resident gargoyle-esque creature native to Neudaiz (this, however, is not revealed until Chapter 5). This has made her seem quite stern at times. She's dedicated to what she does, and is seen through most of the game supporting Ethan up to the final Magashi fight. She's first seen in Episode 2 where she comes and tells Ethan how to make and dissolve a party, and then sets off to help out the local farm, [[Green Green Farm]], in which the animals have become unruly due to SEED influence. She's a general support character until Chapter 5, where she collapses twice at the sight of a Tengohg (it is here that the player finds out how her mother died); her role then elevates slightly.

She then leaves for a while, and is thought to be seen in Chapter 7; however, this is Mirei. The two are twins, who share a special bond which makes them share each other's pain (Karen doesn't know this, though - she forgot who exactly she was, due to the trauma at an early age). She's then seen at the center of the temple on top of a pink rune floating slightly off the ground in stasis, while being watched by Dohgi. He apparently wanted to finish what he started earlier (he attempted to kill Karen while she was young to be able to pass all her powers to Mirei; this led to her mother running away with her and the events that followed). Mirei "takes the hit" for Karen, as Dohgi lashes out at her and hits her with a fatal blast of energy as she attempts to stop him from killing her. Ethan then fights Dohgi. After the fight, Karen wakes up from the stasis above the rune and speaks to Mirei before she dies. As Mirei is gone, and was the only hope for the people of Neudaiz (and Gurhal itself), she takes her place, and is able to imitate Mirei in all but eye color (Mirei has purple eyes; Karen's are blue). She then leaves Ethan's group temporarily to get used to Mirei's position.

Later, in Chapter 10 (Still being referred to as Mirei or "Miko-sama" - Divine Maiden in the localization) she goes to a temple in the forests of Neudaiz with Ethan, Lou and Dr. Kanal Tomrain to perform a divination necesarry to find the confinement system on Neudaiz. Before this, she and Ethan have a conversation; as they started laughing, a creature burst out of the soil, forcing the two to attack. After, Karen and Kanal start the divination ritual; she changes into Mirei's ceremonial robes and starts harnessing the power given to her when the original Mirei died. During this, SEED attack the local area; Ethan and [[Lou]] go off to cut the threat while Karen continues. After this, they come back, and the ritual itself has been a success; Karen then collapses (and is thought to be dead by Ethan), and is taken away by [[Izuma Rutsu]] and Communion of Gurhal operatives.

She reappears in Chapter 12, disguised as a COG armed servant on board Tylor's ship. Ethan goes up and thanks her (not knowing that it's her), at which point she reveals herself, and is thanked by Ethan for coming (earlier in the chapter he seems rather depressed as Izuma said he couldn't see her, or come). Upon entering the SEED Hive, Karen and Ethan split off from Leo's group and explore the Hive alone. They both later find [[Hyuga Ryght]] and [[Maya Shidow]] in a state of suspended animation in a SEED pod, and release them. The four exchange greetings and continue going deeper into the until they find [[Kou Taragi]], also in suspended animation. However, upon release, he has been exposed to far too much SEED inside the pod (he was in there since chapter 8, whereas Maya and Hyuga had only been in there for a short time) and mutates, resulting in a fight between him and the group erupting. After, he is returned to normal, but in a critical state; he dies while talking to Maya, who immediately breaks into hysterics due to the loss of a good friend. Hyuga takes Maya back to the Landeel, and Ethan and Karen continue to press on. Karen gets trapped just before reaching the core in a door trap, unable to help Ethan with the upcoming fight; Ethan heads off alone. She is released, however, when Magashi "dies", and comes to congratulate Ethan on what seems like a victory. Unfortunately, it isn't, but she, Leo and Tonnio fight the SEED-core version of Magashi (Dulk Falkis) along with Ethan. Upon victory, they run back to the Landeel. After, all the living story characters are seen onboard the Landeel during celebration, except Karen, who's on the observation deck. Ethan goes to find her, and they talk; she then hugs Ethan tearfully for saying that he'll protect the world because she's in it, and the credits roll.

A newly activated prototype CAST created by GRM in [[Phantasy Star Portable]], she is perceived throughout the story as 'different' by other characters because of her build and abilities to express different emotions, as well as analyze different emotions like actual living beings would.

The player character, a GUARDIAN who recently receives his/her license, is assigned Vivienne as a mentor for the new CAST.

It is revealed in Chapter 7 that Vivienne was built to serve as an Illuminus spy by a GRM insider, and unbeknown to her, everything that she was seeing was being recorded and sent directly to the Illuminus, which explains why [[Helga Neumann]] had knowledge of restricted areas. In Chapter 8, Helga reveals that Vivienne is nothing more than a 'Copy CAST,' built in Helga's likeness and in order to serve Helga's bidding. She is ordered to kill the player character and Lou but is promptly defeated and joins the duo in chasing down Helga to the HIVE's core.

The choices the player makes throughout Phantasy Star Portable determines Vivienne's fate. The player will receive a 15%, 30%, or 50% Fire attribute Vivienne following the end of the mission depending on the ending received.

His sister, Lumia, was dragged into the SEED invasion as they watched the ceremony of the 100th anniversary of the Alliance between the three planets. This was the first time that the SEED had been active, and eventually he became a cadet at the ''Guardians'', an interplanetary bodyguard organization. He is currently training hard under the supervision of his instructor, Karen Erra.

She is currently attempting to create a ration that would last over 100 years. All attempts have failed, ending with the ration tasting horribly. She usually uses her charm to get into places you wouldn't normally have access, clinging onto the unsuspecting males arm, and pouring on the compliments. Goes by "Leo." He encountered Ethan during the initial SEED invasion, and after fighting alongside him recommended that Ethan join the GUARDIANS. Since then, they've formed a brotherly bond. Despite his rough facade, Leo has a big heart and cares a great deal about his family and friends. He has a wife and a three-year-old son on the GUARDIANS Colony.

Leo is first seen in chapter 1, herding everyone out of the damaged parts of the colony. He meets Ethan. He gets paralyzed by the SEED-Vance and rendered unable to move. After Ethan kills the monster with Leo's handgun, he gives him weapons, advice and directions so that Ethan can rescue his sister. He later appears with a pair of Guardians that help free Lumia. Ethan meets Leo again in episode 6, together they set off to Moatoob to chase the [[Vol Brothers]]. Leo is often seen holding the ever aggressive Tonnio back, who goes so far as to strangle the defeated Vol brothers. Leo is next seen in chapter 8, helping Ethan and Tylor during the Grina Bete fight. Seen again in Chapter 11 helping Ethan and Co escort Dr. Tomrain to the confinement system on Moatoob. Leo is seen again in Chapter 12, leading Tonnio and Lou into the other route of the HIVE to find the missing researchers. He calls Ethan when his group is trapped in a dead end hallway. He's next seen aiding Ethan on the final Dulk Falkis fight. As with the rest of the characters involved, he's at the Landeel after party.

After three years of experience with the GUARDIANS, Karen was assigned as Ethan's instructor. As a girl, her mother was killed by native creatures, and although she is a newman, she is unable to use TECHNICs for some reason. To compensate for this deficiency, Karen pushes herself to do her best, sometimes overly hard.

=== Episode 1 ===

Karen Erra was a orphan from a young age, suffering due to her mother being killed by a Tengohg, a resident gargoyle-esque creature native to Neudaiz (this, however, is not revealed until Chapter 5). This has made her seem quite stern at times. She's dedicated to what she does, and is seen through most of the game supporting Ethan up to the final Magashi fight. She's first seen in Episode 2 where she comes and tells Ethan how to make and dissolve a party, and then sets off to help out the local farm, [[Green Green Farm]], in which the animals have become unruly due to SEED influence. She's a general support character until Chapter 5, where she collapses twice at the sight of a Tengohg (it is here that the player finds out how her mother died); her role then elevates slightly.

She then leaves for a while, and is thought to be seen in Chapter 7; however, this is Mirei. The two are twins, who share a special bond which makes them share each other's pain (Karen doesn't know this, though - she forgot who exactly she was, due to the trauma at an early age). She's then seen at the center of the temple on top of a pink rune floating slightly off the ground in stasis, while being watched by Dohgi. He apparently wanted to finish what he started earlier (he attempted to kill Karen while she was young to be able to pass all her powers to Mirei; this led to her mother running away with her and the events that followed). Mirei "takes the hit" for Karen, as Dohgi lashes out at her and hits her with a fatal blast of energy as she attempts to stop him from killing her. Ethan then fights Dohgi. After the fight, Karen wakes up from the stasis above the rune and speaks to Mirei before she dies. As Mirei is gone, and was the only hope for the people of Neudaiz (and Gurhal itself), she takes her place, and is able to imitate Mirei in all but eye color (Mirei has purple eyes; Karen's are blue). She then leaves Ethan's group temporarily to get used to Mirei's position.

Later, in Chapter 10 (Still being referred to as Mirei or "Miko-sama" - Divine Maiden in the localization) she goes to a temple in the forests of Neudaiz with Ethan, Lou and Dr. Kanal Tomrain to perform a divination necesarry to find the confinement system on Neudaiz. Before this, she and Ethan have a conversation; as they started laughing, a creature burst out of the soil, forcing the two to attack. After, Karen and Kanal start the divination ritual; she changes into Mirei's ceremonial robes and starts harnessing the power given to her when the original Mirei died. During this, SEED attack the local area; Ethan and [[Lou]] go off to cut the threat while Karen continues. After this, they come back, and the ritual itself has been a success; Karen then collapses (and is thought to be dead by Ethan), and is taken away by [[Izuma Rutsu]] and Communion of Gurhal operatives.

She reappears in Chapter 12, disguised as a COG armed servant on board Tylor's ship. Ethan goes up and thanks her (not knowing that it's her), at which point she reveals herself, and is thanked by Ethan for coming (earlier in the chapter he seems rather depressed as Izuma said he couldn't see her, or come). Upon entering the SEED Hive, Karen and Ethan split off from Leo's group and explore the Hive alone. They both later find [[Hyuga Ryght]] and [[Maya Shidow]] in a state of suspended animation in a SEED pod, and release them. The four exchange greetings and continue going deeper into the until they find [[Kou Taragi]], also in suspended animation. However, upon release, he has been exposed to far too much SEED inside the pod (he was in there since chapter 8, whereas Maya and Hyuga had only been in there for a short time) and mutates, resulting in a fight between him and the group erupting. After, he is returned to normal, but in a critical state; he dies while talking to Maya, who immediately breaks into hysterics due to the loss of a good friend. Hyuga takes Maya back to the Landeel, and Ethan and Karen continue to press on. Karen gets trapped just before reaching the core in a door trap, unable to help Ethan with the upcoming fight; Ethan heads off alone. She is released, however, when Magashi "dies", and comes to congratulate Ethan on what seems like a victory. Unfortunately, it isn't, but she, Leo and Tonnio fight the SEED-core version of Magashi (Dulk Falkis) along with Ethan. Upon victory, they run back to the Landeel. After, all the living story characters are seen onboard the Landeel during celebration, except Karen, who's on the observation deck. Ethan goes to find her, and they talk; she then hugs Ethan tearfully for saying that he'll protect the world because she's in it, and the credits roll.

*Her original name before fleeing [[Neudaiz]] was Kuyuh Mikuna; Karen Erra is presumably the name her mother gave to her.
*Ethan and Karen talk after the credits about network mode. (Quote: "Go play network mode and make a character!" - Karen "Hey, I thought I was the main character?" - Ethan)
*Karen has a few random voice shots after chapter ending sequences if you do the chapter in question twice (on a different save each time). In one such case, she asks Ethan if he finds her attractive; in another, she tells Ethan and Hyuga she won't date them because their work ethic is not good enough.
*Karen is voiced by Rie Tanaka, a famous female voice actor with a very large fanbase (extending to outside Japan). Tanaka herself apparently plays the online mode (she says this in her blog on [http://tanaka-rie.com]), though it's unknown what character she is.
*Karen is highly afraid of Tengohgs, as they are the cause of her mother's death; she faints half of the time whenever one appears, and entirely blacks out when Onmagoug attacks the party.

A Guardian since the organization was first established, he's the oldest member of the GUARDIANS and headmaster of the GUARDIANS Training School. Many Guardians trained directly under him, including the current president, and he has a faithful memory of each student, particularly their weak spots. He is held in great esteem. His strength is still plentiful, although his body has succumbed to a common CAST ailment.

=== Episode 1 ===

Lucaim is minor compared to most characters, only appearing once or twice; Mainly in mission briefings. He does, however, play a large part in chapter 4, helping the party through the train mission. His most notable appearance was during the Train mission where he effortlessly took on the Vol brothers alone, and left them all in a heap. During episode 4, (About half-way through), he collapses, forcing Hyuga to stay behind and Ethan to go on ahead. He's later seen on the G-flyer laughing about it - however he actually suffers from ICS (Instant Crash Syndrome), a "disease" that affects CASTs close to 200 years old. Afterwards, he spars with Ethan (and comes out victorious).

Cities in Phantasy Star Universe are places where players may interact with each other, buy and sell [[Items]] at [[Shops]] and prepare for venturing out. Unlike [[Missions]], and Pioneer 2 in Phantasy Star Online, cities are not instanced. In many ways they can be seen as the lobbies from PSO.

A Guardian who attended the GUARDIANS Training School at the same time as Ethan. He and Ethan are rivals, often competing for first place in the Colony Frabullu Tournament. He's a bit of a lothario, but also a devout follower of the Gurhal Faith, and claims that all the girls he has met have come to him through divine intervention. At heart he is a very diligent prodigy.

More of a supporting actor, Hyuga is a rabid flirt who enjoys competing with Ethan (at one point, when asked if he is Ethan's friend, he says "We were more rivals than we were friends."). He supports Ethan during most episodes, but only really plays a major role in the plot later on, at the HIVE. He's mainly Ethan's partner, joining up with him in nearly every chapter including 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 12 - he's absent for the Magashi fight, though. He bails Ethan out during chapter 7, in an attempt to protect Mirei (it's known he's a Communion of Gurhal devotee, often saying all encounters are caused by the Holy Light as a chat-up line), holding 2 guards while Ethan, Mirei and Maya go on. He leaves the party halfway through chapter 12 while comforting Maya, following the loss of Kou Taragi.
