Guide

The rewards for each mission are listed as not only exp factors into leveling. Cash and drops are a valuable resource and have been taken into account, so was MP. The exp values listed are not exact, but to give you an idea of aout how much experience you'll get from running through the mission once.

EXP Earning

When trying to level up it will be always faster to do it in a party instead of solo - providing you can tag most of the enemies. Also, when there is discrepancy of 31 levels or more between your character and the enemy the EXP earned will be reduced, the correct formula being:

EXP aquired = Original EXP x (30/level difference)

<b>Solo Leveling</b>

<b>Level 1 to 5</b>

Guardians Colony, Unsafe Passage C

Around 500 xp and 800 meseta per run.

<b>Level 1 to 10</b>

Guardians Colony, Fight for Food C

Around 900 xp per run.

Palum, Scarred Planet C

Around 2000 xp per run. Takes 10 to 20 minutes.
It may be a little hard for a fresh level 1 character but it's doable in 25 minutes. You should have no problem with 3 stars equipment. The Bal Soza techniques and Grass Assassin paralysis might pose a problem though.

<b>Level 10+</b>

Palum, Innocent Girl C

Around 18000 xp per run.
Lots of mission points, Vivienne tagging along and the enemies' reduced HP make this mission one of the best to level up at this level range. With the use of traps, techniques and Vivienne you can level up from 1 to 10 in less than 10 minutes.

Guardians Colony, Dark Satellite C

Around 2000 to 2600 xp and 9 mission points per run.
Best suited for Rangers if you have low level. A level 10 ranger should be able to do a run in 20 minutes. Some of the enemies might pose a threat so stock up on mates and antidotes.

Palum, Mad Creatures C

Around 1100 xp per run. Takes 10 minutes.
Small enemy count but you will get plenty of mats..

Palum, Lightning Beasts C

Around 3300 xp per run.
You should be able to finish a run in 15 to 20 mins if you have Earth weapons and a decent line shield. Bring a NPC along as the Gainozeros might pose a threat.

<b>Level 15+</b>

Palum, Sleeping Warriors C

Around 4000 to 4500 xp per run. Takes 15 to 20 minutes.
Plenty of nano drops. Best suited for Hunter types.

Palum, Plains Overlord C

Around 4000 to 4500 xp per run. Takes 15 to 20 minutes.
A walk in the park if you have Ice/Earth weapons.

Neudaiz, The Holy Ground C

Around 2700 xp per run.
Best suited for Hunter types.

Moatoob, Valley of Carnage C

Around 3000 to 3400 xp and 7 mission points per run. Takes 10 to 15 minutes.
Best suited for Hunter types.

Moaboot, Mine Defence C

Around 1500 to 2200 xp per run.

<b>Level 40+</b>

Guardians Colony, Maximum Attack G' C

Around 23000 xp per run and 186 mission points. Takes around 40 to 60 minutes.
You will also get an additional 1500 xp, 20 mission points and 2 PA fragments if you run Program DF at the end. Even so it's doable at level 35 accordingly to your gear, PAs and NPCs, you should wait until 40.

Palum, Plains Overlord B

Around 3500 xp per run.

Neudaiz, Grove of Fanatics C

Around 3200 xp per run.

<b>Level 50+</b>

Palum, Innocent Girl B

Around 30000 xp per run.

Moatoob, Valley of Carnage B

Around 6500 xp per run.

Guardians Colony, Linear Train and Fight for Food S

Around 5500 to 6000 xp per run.
Suitable only for Newman fT.

<b>Level 60+</b>

Any C mission at a fast pace

At this level you can clear almost any C mission quite fast. Find one of your preference, learn the maps, enemy spawn pattern, get the appropriate element gear and run any C mission non-stop.

<b>Level 70+</b>

Newdaiz, White Beast S2

Around 70000 xp per run.

<b>Party Leveling</b>

As the player populations is constitued mostly of higher level characters, it's recommended that you solo for the first 50 levels as it can get very hard to get a party together. At level 50+ you can easily find a party in hotspots.

For new players that may not know the term, "Hot Spots," are missions with large rewards, or alluring rare drops which causes a portion of the population to gather there. Hot Spots are great for finding parties and making new friends. Ask for directions for either of the two in game if you need help finding it.

<b>Level 1+</b>
Guardians Colony, Fight for Food C

Skip the boss if the party level is too low.

Palum, Sleeping Warrior C

Leveling TECHNIC PA's
Attack TECHNICs:
I'd recommend watching this video. It shows an area in Sakura Blast that gives you an advantage to doing it fast. It also points out a few other locations that will work as well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCn8ZbPEX04

Buff TECHNICs:
Join a buff party. These are rooms where everyone stands at a recharge cube and constantly cast buff spells. Check White Beast (Neudaiz), or currently MAG+, and see if you can find one. The more people you can buff over and over, the faster you will gain photon experience and level your buff spells.

Debuff TECHNICs:
You should be a bit of a higher level to do this - you want to take 0 damage from level 15 enemys. Try Valley of Carnage C on Moatoob - run through block 1, and on block 2 you will enter an area with a recharge cube, and an open area with enemies. What you are looking for is 5 varndas(?), that are normal or only with the defense buff. Walk into the middle, make sure you take 0 damage from hits and their fire blast (they won't Diga if you are close), and just cast away. One map does not have these, but it appears almost every other variant/spawn does. Once your out of PP, take 15 seconds to run back, recharge, and run back and cast again.

I'm going to work on this page a little bit later tonight after I get out of class... make it a bit more relevant with a bit more up to date information. I'll also add parts about leveling PA's and separate sections for PA/XP/MP... I'll also probably chop these comments. If anyone has a complaint or advice, please post within the next few hours. =)
I need to double check the style manual, but it's OK to link to youtube videos right? I don't really have time now as I'm taking a quick break from studying, but if anyone can let me know that would be great. Banarak 22:24, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
I'm a regular player on the American Xbox 360, I also have a subscription to the American PC server, however I love Hi-Def and while coerced by some RL friends, I enjoy the 360 much more. My gamertag is Banarak, look me up if you ever want to game together.

I've found my way here with over 400 hours of PSO experience, from Ver.1 and Ver.2 on Dreamcast, to Xbox PSO EP1&2 and PC:BB. So far on 360 PSU I've got 200 hours clocked in on my main... although probably about 60 of that is bogus, since I've left my 360 on for hours at a time without actually being on it. One time I had a few to drink and just walked out of my arcade room with my 360... and didn't come back for 2 days. =) Long story, hehe.
So far it looks kinda bleh, might remove atp/ata information and put that in a separate table and keep bullet information in that large table. Colors are probably too prominent. Need to find more atp/ata information. --SiegeV 12:44, 31 December 2006 (CST)
It appears Killer Shot does not gain Knockdown effect at level 31 and up. I just got mine to level 31 and nothing happened! What a letdown :P I'm wondering if this effects Mayalee Shot Shot as well? Smidge204 17:49, 20 November 2008 (CST)
* While not mentioned in our official update list locally, the only rifle PAs which obtain the knockdown effect are elemental. Frag PAs (Killer Shot/Mayalee Shot) are not affected. Perhaps this is something that should be mentioned here as well as the respective articles. S-T-H 05:11, 21 November 2008 (CST)
Cleanup
I did allot of cleanup work on the tables. Made links to status effects etc. But can anyone fix those ugly looking lines at the LVL things? --17:55, 22 November 2009 Niceone
Twin Handgun Twin Mayalee change?
I remember a few weeks ago when I purchased Twin Mayalee that I bought it for the Def Down debuff, which was mentioned on this page. Now it says it's -ATA/EVP, when it still has not changed on the Xbox360 version. (I just tested it.) Was this a change from another version?
---Introduction---
I'm a regular player on the American Xbox 360, I also have a subscription to the American PC server, however I love Hi-Def and while coerced by some RL friends, I enjoy the 360 much more.

As Phantasy Star Universe's Network Mode is essentially a mass-multiplayer online RPG (MMORPG), it's not hugely surprising that from time to time it shall receive game updates and content additions.

This page is to list the state of the game's Network Mode as of specific dates, and record the history of what each update achieved. As the game grows in the number of updates (hence, the amount of content) it may become necessary to split details of each update (or each month's worth of) into separate sub-articles.

All times specified within this article are PST, to match the various times used and specified on the Phantasy Star Universe website.

Initial State
Unlike the other sections, this one makes note of how the game was before any updates were added.

Date: From 24th of October release to 16th of November maintenance (from 23:00 to 04:45 on the 17th).

Flight Destinations
Unlike all updates following the game's initial state, Network Mode did not allow access to the planet Moatoob in it's initial state. It had the following planets, each with the one specified city and the following flight destinations (when leaving your "My Room"):

Types
The three "basic" types (the classic trio from Phantasy Star Online) were the only possible GUARDIAN types on the game's launch:

Hunter || Ranger || Force

Level Cap
On the game's release, GUARDIANS could reach a maximum level of 50 before they stopped gaining experience points.

Missions
The following missions were available:

Story Missions
Network Mode began with no story missions available, the most obvious reason for this being that Network Mode story missions are a direct continuation of offline Story Mode and players would want to be given a fair amount of time to complete that before starting starting the Network Mode story mission string.

Party Missions
Network Mode began with no party missions available, the most obvious reason for this being that Network Mode was still new and Party Missions are somewhat involved and require a suitable amount of experience with the game, thus players would want to be given a fair amount of time to get used to the game before starting something as involved as these.

Available
The following weapons, photon arts, etc. were accessible at the start of the game:

Events
Network Mode started out "vanilla", without any Events active. This is worthy of note not only for this article to be complete, but also because the game started out while the Haloween Event was active in the JP PC/PS2 version of Phantasy Star Universe.

Other Changes
* There was a patch download required during the first connection to Phantasy Star Universe Network Mode, however as this was the "initial state", it is unknown what this actually achieved, nor is it of particular importance.

Update 001
Date: From 16th of November maintenance (from 23:00 to 04:45 on the 17th) to 7th of December maintenance (from 23:00 to 04:00 on the 8th).

Flight Destinations
Access to the planet Moatoob was added in this update, adding three new flight destinations to the game on leaving "My Room":

New missions were added to all three planets.

Other Changes
* Players have discovered that the Partner Machinery GH-450 now has issues switching weapons. Allegedly despite the switching animation and noise, the weapon remains the same and as such the PM now no longer heals, among other things.

* As of this update there have been numerous complaints about the PC version of the game experiencing mysterious periods of slowdown, mostly during Parum and Neudaiz missions. Some players have noted that this also occurred in the first JP update, though the immediate update after that fixed the issue. It is believed to be related to texture changes somehow.

* Prior to this patch, it has been reported that Hunters on the Xbox 360 version had incorrect stat calculations, making them level-for-level better off than their PC/PS2 counterparts and disproportionately more effective than Xbox 360 Rangers and Forces. This has been addressed in this patch, causing a large amount of unwarranted complaint from Xbox 360 Hunters.

Update 002
Date: From 7th of December maintenance (from 23:00 to 04:00 on the 8th) to 14th of December maintenance (from 23:00 to 04:00 on the 15th).

Types
Seven "expert" types were added in this update, a selection of three hybrid types, three specialist types, and one "experimental" type.

colspan=3|Protranser

Level Cap
This update raised the maximum level cap of GUARDIANS to level 60 before they stopped gaining experience points.

Missions
No all-new missions were added, but 2 missions were given S-Rank difficulty.

Story Missions
The first of a new series of story missions (obstensibly named "Episode 2" as it is set after the offline Story Mode) was introduced with this update.

This mission is titled "The Mask", is initiated from Clyez City 5th Floor: GUARDIANS HQ, and is freely repeatable.

Available
This update introduced the Christmas Event to the game, which lasted until the Update 005 on Boxing Day.

Other Changes
* This update was carried out entirely server-side, thus PC users did not receive a patch download for this update.

* As there was no patch download, previous client-side issues (most notably the texture/slowdown issue from Update 001) have yet to be resolved.

Story Missions
The second of a new series of story missions (obstensibly named "Episode 2" as it is set after the offline Story Mode) was introduced with this update.

This mission is titled "Desert's End", is initiated from Clyez City 5th Floor: GUARDIANS HQ, and is freely repeatable.

Other Changes
* This update was carried out entirely server-side, thus PC users did not receive a patch download for this update.

* As there was no patch download, previous client-side issues (most notably the texture/slowdown issue from Update 001) have yet to be resolved.

Update 005
Date: From 26th of December ("rescheduled Boxing Day") maintenance to 11th of January maintenance (from 23:00 to 02:00 on the 12th).

Events
This update concluded the Christmas Event introduced in Update 002, sooner than many players expected.

This update also introduced the New Year's Event to the game, which lasted until Update 006 on the 11th of January.

Other Changes
* A Photon Charger was added next to the Universe Transporter next to the Flyer Base in Ohtoku City, presumably because the recent addition of Mizuraki Defense S had caused a notable amount of player activity in the area seeking a PP refill.

* This update was carried out entirely server-side, thus PC users did not receive a patch download for this update.

* As there was no patch download, previous client-side issues (most notably the texture/slowdown issue from Update 001) have yet to be resolved.

* This is not generally considered a "full update" as Events are not particularly tangible.

Update 006
Date: From 11th of January maintenance (from 23:00 to 02:00 on the 12th) to 18th of January maintenance (from 23:25 to 02:05 on the 19th).

Level Cap
This update raised the maximum level cap of GUARDIANS to level 70 before they stopped gaining experience points.

Missions
No all-new missions were added, but 3 missions were given S-Rank difficulty.
Story Missions
The third of the series of story missions (still "Episode 2") was introduced with this update.

This mission is titled "HIVE Purge", is initiated from Clyez City 5th Floor: GUARDIANS HQ, and is freely repeatable.

Party Missions
The first "party mission" has been added to the game. It is titled "Bruce's Dungeon" and is accessible at the Moatoob GUARDIANS HQ. The mission requires a party of 2-5 players.

This update concluded the New Year's Event introduced in Update 005.

This update also introduced the Winter Event to the game, which lasted until Update 009 on the 1st of February.

Other Changes
* The Graphics -> Custom menu in the PC Phantasy Star Universe Options menu has been updated. There is now an option to enable or disable MIPMAPping.

Update 007
Date: From 18th of January maintenance (from 23:25 to 02:05 on the 19th) to 25th of January maintenance (from 23:00 to 03:00 on the 26th).

Other Changes
* There was a patch download required with this update.

* The short-lived "Clothing Glitch" using questionable methods to enable oddities such as wearing half a swimsuit alongside normal clothing has been rendered impossible.

* The "trick" of disconnecting if a synthesis fails and then cancelling that synthesis to save a board use has also been made impossible - the "Cancel Synthesis" option now greys out when the synthesis time reaches 0:00 left.

Story Missions
The fourth of the series of story missions (still "Episode 2") was introduced with this update.

Update 009
This update concluded the Winter Event introduced in Update 006.

This update introduced the Valentine's Day Event to the game, which lasted until Update 011 on the 16th of February.

Other Changes
* This update was carried out entirely server-side, thus PC users did not receive a patch download for this update.

* There is a "Status adjustment of Partner Machinery." Player reaction suggests that this has basically upped the damage output of the GH-430, GH-440 and GH-450 models.

* Traps have received a "power adjustment". They now do more damage on being set off. Their status effects seem to remain unchanged.

* The rarity of "Moon Atomizer X" and "[B] Moon Atomizer X" has been changed from 7* to 6*. This means they are no longer considered "rares" by the game. However they still show as 7* in player shops.

Update 010
Date: From 8th of February maintenance (from 23:00 to 01:30 on the 9th) to 16th of February maintenance (from 03:20 to 03:30).

Story Missions
The fifth of the series of story missions (still "Episode 2") was introduced with this update.

This mission is titled "Valley of Doubt", is initiated from Clyez City 5th Floor: GUARDIANS HQ, and is freely repeatable.

Other Changes
* This update was carried out entirely server-side, thus PC users did not receive a patch download for this update.

* The Englsih PSU update preview cited 20 "ultimate" Photon Arts to be included with this update, however the JP 360 update preview (Google translation) mentioned only the story mission. Ultimately the PAs were never added, with the EN staff citing "technical difficulties" as the reason.

<!-- The stat requirements for Kohibumiteri were quietly revised, but since it's almost impossible to get one this year without the 80 cap or S2 missions it doesn't matter that much... -->
The update added "an Item Exchange mission" which is used to obtain the "Ultimate" Photon Arts, as those require exchanging the item PA Fragment for new skills, bullets and TECHNICs.

Other Changes
* There was a patch download required with this update.

* This update fixes the long-known bug known as "shift-cancelling" where PC players who used the "Keyboard" control scheme could make use of the "Shift" key to instantly cancel the casting of Dam-type and Nos-type TECHNICs. While not particularly harmful for Dam-type TECHs, Nos-type TECHs continue to take effect even after the casting has begun, so making extensive use of the bug would have allowed enterprising Fortetechers to achieve an alarming damage output.

* When feeding PM, the menu doesn't close each time an item is given.

* A new shop npc has been placed in the lobby after the second hive mission this npc sells kubara weapon boards.

* We don't know yet!

Hunter || Ranger || Force

Missions

Available
The following were added to become accessible:

Events
This update introduced the Christmas Event to the game, which lasted until the Update 005 on Boxing Day.

Other Changes
* This update was carried out entirely server-side, thus PC users did not receive a patch download for this update.

* As there was no patch download, previous client-side issues (most notably the texture/slowdown issue from Update 001) have yet to be resolved.

Update 003
Date: From 14th of December maintenance (from 23:00 to 04:00 on the 15th) to 21st of December maintenance (from 23:00 to 03:00 on the 22nd).

Missions
Other Changes
* There was a patch download required with this update.

* The short-lived "Clothing Glitch" using questionable methods to enable oddities such as wearing half a swimsuit alongside normal clothing has been rendered impossible.

* The "trick" of disconnecting if a synthesis fails and then cancelling that synthesis to save a board use has also been made impossible - the "Cancel Synthesis" option now greys out when the synthesis time reaches 0:00 left.

* We don't know yet!
